Billy Bob Thornton Is All In on Landman Season 2 — and He’s Thrilled to Reunite With Sam Elliott
As production ramps up in Fort Worth, Texas, for Season 2 of Landman, star Billy Bob Thornton is making it clear: this Taylor Sheridan oil drama is more than just another gig — it’s a passion project. And the excitement isn’t just about his own role. With the legendary Sam Elliott joining the cast, the Oscar-winning actor says the set has never felt more electric.
In a recent interview, Billy Bob Thornton reflected on playing oil negotiator Tommy Norris, revealing he’s committed to the series for the long haul. “Absolutely,” he said when asked if he’d stick around. “I told Taylor, ‘As long as you want me around, I’m here for this.’”
Billy Bob Thornton, known for career-defining roles in Sling Blade and Goliath, is no stranger to intense characters, and Landman delivers on that front. The Season 1 finale saw his character brutally tortured in a gasoline-soaked interrogation by cartel members. Thornton said he drew from his own turbulent past to approach the scene with authenticity. “I’ve been around some pretty weird things,” he said, adding that real-life experience is often his greatest resource on set.
Enter: Sam Elliott
The big buzz around Taylor Sheridan’s Landman Season 2, set to premiere November 17, 2024, on Paramount+, is the addition of Sam Elliott, best known for 1883, Tombstone, and that unmistakable Western grit. Details of Elliott’s character are still under wraps, but Thornton couldn’t contain his enthusiasm about reuniting with someone he calls both a “mentor and hero.”
“He lights my day up,” Thornton said warmly. “I love the guy. We have a real special relationship in real life anyway.”
Their real-life chemistry promises to bring even more emotional depth to the gritty oil industry drama that has already captivated audiences with its morally complex storytelling.
