After Flipkart and Amazon revealing their fierce start to the festive season sale, it was Snapdeal’s turn to make it count. According to an official statement, Snapdeal on Monday has recorded its highest ever sales by both volume and value on any single day on Day 1 of the ‘Unbox Diwali Sale’.
The statement further revealed that its sales have increased by 9X and 37 sellers crossing more than Rs 1 crore in turnover. With the sales volumes surging nearly 9 times that of the average daily sales, Snapdeal witnessed more than 80% of orders coming from its mobile platforms.
Snapdeal’s huge investment in its logo to freshen things up before the festive season started seems to have done the trick. ‘Snapdeal Diwali Sale’ was most searched from Mizoram, Meghalaya, Goa, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir and more than 100,000 pairs of footwear was also sold on Day 1.
The traffic from tier 2 and 3 cities increased by 20 times, with maximum surge, other than metros, coming from Mizoram, Meghalaya, Goa, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir in that order.
The SoftBank Corp, Foxconn and Alibaba Group-backed company that pivoted into a etailer from a deals site six years ago, had engaged London-based DesignStudio for the new logo, which undertook a similar exercise for online home rentals venture Airbnb.
In a statement on Sunday, the company said that it saw nearly 700,000 concurrent users flocking to the site within the first 5 minutes. Nearly 11 lakh buyers from over 2800 cities and towns across India bought at Snapdeal in the first 16 hours of the sale.
The orders went to nearly 52,000 sellers from all over India and customers from over 2800 cities and towns across India placed their orders at Snapdeal. It also sold 12 apartments and 846 bikes during the first 16 hours of the sale.
The marketplace also managed to sell more than 2.5 lakhs kitchen appliances and cargo to be shipped on Day 1 can fill nearly 20 A380 Jumbos.
