J. Cole Reportedly Keeps The Fall-Off Out of the 2027 Grammys Race Despite No. 1 Debut

Cole won Best Rap Song at the 2020 Grammys as a featured artist on 21 Savage’s “A Lot.” He later shared a Grammy win with Lil Durk for “All My Life,” which won Best Melodic Rap Performance.

J. Cole’s album The Fall-Off could miss the 2027 Grammy Awards entirely, not because it lost a nomination, but because it was reportedly never submitted for consideration.

As first-round voting for the 2027 Grammys gets underway, reports circulating among Grammy-focused music accounts claim that J Cole did not submit any eligible music released in 2026, including The Fall-Off. If accurate, the decision would keep one of rap’s most anticipated projects out of contention before the nomination process reaches its next stage.

Neither J. Cole nor his representatives have publicly confirmed the reports or explained the alleged decision. It remains unclear whether the absence reflects a deliberate protest against the Recording Academy or another consideration.

Why J. Cole’s Grammy Decision Is Raising Eyebrows

The reported move is particularly striking because The Fall-Off arrived after years of anticipation. J Cole began teasing the project as far back as 2018, building expectations around what he had described as a potential final album.

Released in February 2026, the project debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, giving it an immediate commercial milestone. Its success also made it a potential contender in the upcoming Grammy race, particularly in rap-related categories.

However, commercial performance does not automatically translate into Grammy ballot eligibility. The Recording Academy requires eligible recordings to be formally entered through its Online Entry Process before voting members can consider them.

Submissions for the 2027 ceremony reportedly closed on August 21, with first-round voting beginning October 12. If Cole’s music was not entered before the deadline, The Fall-Off cannot compete for nominations in this Grammy cycle.

That distinction matters: Grammy voters would not have rejected the album. It would simply be absent from the competition.

J. Cole Has Criticised the Grammys Before

J. Cole’s reported decision has renewed attention on his complicated relationship with the Recording Academy. Although the rapper has received nominations and won awards, he has also questioned the institution and the wider music industry’s approach to recognizing hip-hop.

On his 2024 track “7 Minute Drill,” Cole delivered a pointed dismissal of the Grammys, adding to a history of skepticism about music awards and their significance.

Yet his record with the organization shows his relationship with the awards hasn’t been defined entirely by opposition.

J Cole won Best Rap Song at the 2020 Grammys as a featured artist on 21 Savage’s “A Lot.” He later shared a Grammy win with Lil Durk for “All My Life,” which won Best Melodic Rap Performance.

His album The Off-Season also earned multiple nominations at the 2022 ceremony, while Might Delete Later received a Best Rap Album nomination at the 2025 Grammys.

Against that background, the latest reports raise a fresh question: is Cole distancing himself from the awards process, or is there another explanation for the missing submissions?

For now, no one has confirmed an answer.

The Fall-Off Arrived After Years of Hype

Few projects in J Cole’s catalogue have carried the same extended anticipation as The Fall-Off. The album’s long development and its positioning as a possible closing chapter in his career helped make its release a major moment for hip-hop fans.

Its No. 1 Billboard 200 debut demonstrated that the interest translated into commercial results. Missing the Grammy ballot, if confirmed, would therefore create a striking contrast between the album’s chart performance and its awards-season prospects.

Still, the absence of a Grammy nomination would not diminish the album’s existing commercial achievements. Nor would it, on its own, establish that Cole deliberately boycotted the ceremony.

The rapper’s camp has yet to offer a public explanation, leaving the circumstances unresolved as the Grammy process continues.

J. Cole’s 2026 World Tour Adds Another Major Chapter

The Grammy reports arrive amid announcements surrounding Cole’s planned The Fall-Off world tour. The supplied tour schedule lists 50 arena dates across North America, Europe, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.

The North American leg is scheduled to begin July 11 in Charlotte, North Carolina, before moving through major markets including Miami, Atlanta, Toronto, New York, Chicago, Los Angeles and Houston. The schedule then moves to Europe in October and November, followed by Australia and New Zealand, before concluding December 12 in Johannesburg, South Africa.

The reported itinerary places the album at the center of a major international live campaign, potentially giving fans another way to experience the project regardless of its Grammy status.

Will J. Cole Be Missing From the 2027 Grammy Awards?

For now, the biggest question is whether Cole or his representatives will address the reports before Grammy nominations are announced in November.

If the claims are accurate, The Fall-Off will not be competing for awards this cycle, despite its highly anticipated release and No. 1 debut. But without confirmation from Cole’s camp, the reason behind the reported absence remains unknown.

One thing is clear: the discussion surrounding The Fall-Off has expanded beyond its music. With Grammy questions resurfacing and a global tour on the horizon, J. Cole remains at the centre of a conversation about commercial success, artistic recognition and the value of music’s biggest awards.
