The online-to-offline same day delivery, which was started by online marketplace Paytm in October 2015 has now scaled up to 20 cities in categories that include large appliances and mobiles.
The O2O deliveries were started last year to meet the demand for the festive season.
The service enables sellers to charge a premium for the delivery depending on the category of the goods that is getting delivered.
Sudhanshu Gupta, the Vice President at Paytm, said, “The packing and installation in case of appliances are done by the sellers themselves. With this, we are able to cover a critical category of large appliances that cannot be shipped by traditional warehousing models.”
Currently, the marketplace ships close to around Rs 20-crore of worth orders in a month through its same-day delivery service.
Paytm has over 1.2 lakh sellers on their platform out of which over 3000 are sellers who specialise in shipping large appliances locally. Paytm is aiming to add 10,000 more sellers in 50 top cities to spread the reach of O2O commerce further.
Flipkart had even claimed earlier this year that the large appliances are more than likely to drive the growth in the financial year 2016-17. ET had reported that Flipkart has set up a dedicated facility for delivery and installation of large appliances for improved customer experience,
