Sushmita Sen’s web series Aarya nominated in 2021 International Emmy Awards for Best Drama Series

Aarya, a web series starring Sushmita Sen, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Vir Das and Ram Madhvani, has been nominated for Best Drama Series for the 2021 International Emmy Awards. An elated former Miss Universe tweeted, “OMGGGGGG!!! AARYA is nominated for Best Drama Series at the #InternationalEmmyAwards2021.”




Aarya is the remake of the popular Dutch crime-drama Penoza. The Indian web series revolves around Arya Sarin, a happily married woman played by Sen, whose world is turned upside down when her husband, pharma baron Tej Sarin (Chandrachur Singh) is shot. Produced by Ram Madhvani and Sandeep Modi, Aarya garnered accolades after its debut in June 2020.

Madhvani told PTI he is proud of the show’s nomination and dedicated it to the cast and crew of Aarya. “Being nominated in the Best Drama Series category at the International Emmy Awards is truly something that makes us humbly proud. Here’s to my entire team and my co-producer Amita Madhvani and my co-directors and Sushmita Sen and all the cast and Disney+Hotstar and Endemol Shine.”

Nawazuddin Siddiqui has been nominated in the Best Performance by an Actor category for his role in Serious Men, directed by Sudhir Mishra, the film is based on Manu Joseph’s novel by the same name. The Bollywood actor has been nominated alongside David Tennant (Des), Roy Nik of Israel (Normali) and Christian Tappan of Colombia (El Robo del Siglo or The Great Heist).

Vir Das has also been nominated for his Netflix comedy special Vir Das:For India in the comedy segment. In this category, popular French show Call My Agent, Britain’s Motherland: Christmas Special, and Colombian series Promesas de Campana have been nominated.

The winners of the 2021 International Emmy Awards will be announced during an in-person ceremony which would be held in New York on November 22. India’s three nominations come a year after India registered a strong showing at the 48th International Emmy Awards with filmmaker Richie Mehta’s Delhi Crime, winning the Best Drama Series in November 2020.\
