Practical Magic 2 trailer: Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock return as the Owens sisters

Warner Bros. released the first official trailer for Practical Magic 2 on Monday, April 20, 2026, confirming a theatrical release date of September 11, 2026. The sequel reunites Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock as sisters Sally and Gillian Owens, nearly three decades after the beloved 1998 original introduced audiences to the cursed, magical world of the Owens family.

Directed by Susanne Bier, whose credits include Bird Box and The Perfect Couple, the film picks up with the sisters at a new chapter in their lives. Sally’s daughters have grown up and begun forging their own paths, while Gillian is living quietly with her cat. The tranquillity doesn’t last: a mysterious stranger, played by Lee Pace, draws the Owens sisters out of their New England home and into a fresh confrontation with the ancestral curse that has haunted their family for generations.

New cast joins the Owens coven

Alongside Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock, Stockard Channing and Dianne Wiest return as the iconic aunts Frances and Jet, a reunion that fans of the original have been hoping for since the film became a cult classic. Joining them is a new generation of cast members: Joey King, Maisie Williams, Xolo Maridueña, and Solly McLeod all appear in the trailer, suggesting the sequel will expand the Owens family mythology considerably.

What is Practical Magic 2 based on?

The Practical Magin sequel adapts Alice Hoffman’s 2021 novel The Book of Magic, the fourth instalment in her Practical Magic book series. The screenplay was written by Akiva Goldsman and Georgia Pritchett. Bullock and Kidman serve as producers alongside Denise DiNovi, while Hoffman and a team of producers, including Andrew Kosove, Broderick Johnson, and Donald Sabourin, are credited as executive producers.

The Practical Magic 2 trailer debuted to cinema owners at CinemaCon in Las Vegas before its public release this week, generating significant early buzz around what Warner Bros. is positioning as a major theatrical event of autumn 2026. With a September release window, strong IP, a beloved returning cast, and a director with a proven track record for genre-inflected storytelling, Practical Magic 2 is shaping up as one of the most anticipated films of the year’s second half.
