Howard Stern Renews SiriusXM Deal for Three More Years, Ending Exit Rumors
After months of speculation, fake-outs, and headline-grabbing rumors, Howard Stern has officially renewed his deal with SiriusXM for another three years, ensuring that The Howard Stern Show will continue airing on satellite radio well beyond 2025.
The legendary radio host announced the news himself on Tuesday’s broadcast, putting an end to widespread claims that his long-running relationship with SiriusXM was coming to a close.
“I Figured Out a Way to Have It All”
Speaking directly to listeners, Stern, now 71, framed the renewal as a carefully balanced decision. “I’m happy to announce that I figured out a way to have it all — more free time, and continuing to be on the radio,” Stern said. “So yes, we are coming back for three more years.”
A SiriusXM representative later confirmed the three-year contract extension, though financial terms were not disclosed.
The renewal follows Stern’s most recent five-year deal signed in 2020, which was set to expire at the end of 2025.
Months of Confusion, Rumors, and a Classic Stern Prank
Howard Stern’s future at SiriusXM became a hot topic over the summer, fueled by tabloid reports claiming he had been “fired” or that The Howard Stern Show was “set to be canceled” after nearly two decades. Some reports even suggested political motivations behind a potential exit—claims that were never substantiated.
Howard Stern Show Faces Cancellation After 20 Years on SiriusXM Amid Contract Dispute
Adding to the chaos, Stern leaned into the speculation in classic fashion. When he returned to the air after Labor Day, he pranked listeners by pretending Andy Cohen had taken over his SiriusXM channel, briefly convincing fans and even some media outlets that his run was over.
At the time, Stern admitted negotiations were ongoing but described talks with SiriusXM as “fantastic.”
SiriusXM: “He’s Core to Our Platform”
Executives at SiriusXM consistently expressed confidence that a deal would be reached. Speaking at an investment conference in early September, SiriusXM CEO Jennifer Witz emphasized Stern’s importance to the company. “I think he’s been core to our platform for over 20 years, so I’m confident we’ll get to the right place,” Jennifer Witz said.
That confidence has now paid off, securing one of satellite radio’s most valuable and recognizable voices for the foreseeable future.

A Two-Decade Partnership That Changed Radio
Howard Stern first signed with Sirius in 2004, before its merger with XM, seeking freedom from FCC regulations that had resulted in millions of dollars in fines during his terrestrial radio days. The Howard Stern Show officially debuted on SiriusXM in January 2006, marking a major turning point for both Stern and the satellite radio industry.
Over the years, SiriusXM has reportedly paid hundreds of millions of dollars for exclusive rights to Stern’s content—an investment that helped define the platform and attract subscribers.
What the New Deal Means for Fans
While details about format changes remain unclear, Stern has hinted that the new agreement allows him more flexibility and free time, suggesting a potentially lighter schedule without ending the show altogether.
For now, fans can rest easy: Howard Stern isn’t leaving the airwaves anytime soon.
