Ed Sheeran is back with two new songs, “Castle on the Hill” and “Shape of you”. After about a two year-long hiatus, Sheeran took to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat to share a teaser of the songs before releasing the tracks on Friday morning.
Sheeran’s “Shape of You” is co-written with Johnny McDaid and Steve Mac and is about a budding romance and doesn’t quite sound like your typical Sheeran tune. The synthesized beats and overall rhythm could serve as an indication of what the singer-songwriter will be serving up – Ed Sheeran with a little twist.
“Castle on the Hill” has a more galloping and Mumford and Sons-like feel to it. The song is a look back on his childhood and growing up and was written and produced by Sheeran and Benny Blanco. Similar to his past singles, the track builds up to an epic chorus.
Based on the cryptic division signs in his messages, there is speculation that the next album will be called Divide – keeping in line with his past LPs of Plus and Multiply. With the music, it would seem that Sheeran is about to make quite a riveting, compelling return.
