Engineering students from across India gathered at Ramachandran Puram village, near BVRIT Narsapur in Telangana, to participate in the endurance test of 47 all-terrain off-road electric buggies developed as part of the eBAJA SAEIndia 24 competition. The event, which aimed to provide students with an out-of-classroom learning experience, highlighted the importance of core branches of engineering and produced industry-ready engineers.
Telangana has been at the forefront of promoting e-mobility, with Gopalakrishnan VC, Director of the Automotive and EV sector of the Telangana government, stating that 75% of the state’s target of attracting Rs 32,000 crore investments and creating 1.2 lakh jobs by 2023 has already been achieved.
Students from various colleges showcased their engineering skills by designing, fabricating, and building electric buggies to navigate a tough terrain with obstacles such as pits, ditches, and marshy ground. Despite the challenges, the teams demonstrated resilience and teamwork, with vehicles that encountered issues being quickly repaired by their teams and back in action.
Among the 47 qualified teams, two standout performers were BVRIT, Narsapur in Telangana and Sri Vishnu Institute of Technology for Girls from Bhimavaram. The competition, which was held for the first time in Telangana, attracted 71 teams from colleges across India, with 58 teams clearing technical inspection and 47 qualifying for the endurance test.
The winners of the competition were DY Patil College of Engineering, Akurdi; Pimpri Chinchwad College of Engineering, Pune; and Sri Vishnu Institute of Engineering, Bhimavaram, who were awarded first, second, and third prizes respectively. The event also featured a special awards presentation ceremony graced by Mr. Gopalakrishnan VC, who emphasized Telangana’s commitment to promoting e-mobility through initiatives like the Telangana Mobility Valley (TMV) project.
Sri K V Vishnu Raju, Chairman of Sri Vishnu Educational Society, highlighted the importance of core engineering streams and the institution’s efforts to treat all streams equally. Sanjay Nibandhe, Chairman of the Organising Committee of BAHA SAEINDIA 2024, praised the technological adaptability of Indians, while Sumantra B Barooah, Executive Editor of ET Auto, commended BVRIT for continuing to focus on core engineering branches.
The eBAJA SAEIndia 24 competition will conclude with an HR Meet (job fair) on Sunday, where automobile companies and others will recruit talented individuals. The event serves as a platform to celebrate engineering talent and encourages students to pursue careers in core engineering disciplines, which are essential for innovation and technological advancement.
