Zachary Levi to Host ‘David: King of Israel’ Docudrama for Fox Nation
Actor Zachary Levi is set to host and narrate David: King of Israel, a four-part docudrama commissioned by Fox Nation, the subscription streaming service owned by Fox News Media. Scheduled to debut in the first quarter of 2026, the series will expand Fox Nation’s growing Fox Faith vertical, which recently gained attention with the second season of Martin Scorsese Presents: The Saints.
The series aims to retell one of the most enduring biblical stories through a blend of narration, dramatic reenactments, and expert commentary, offering a modern lens on an ancient figure.
A Raw Portrait of a Biblical Icon
According to Fox Nation, David: King of Israel will present a “raw, sweeping portrait” of the biblical king, whose life was defined by courage, violence, passion, failure, and redemption. The docudrama traces David’s journey from humble shepherd to ruler of Israel, highlighting both his triumphs and moral failings.
Levi’s narration is positioned as a key anchor for the series, guiding viewers through David’s complex emotional and spiritual arc while connecting the story’s themes to contemporary audiences.

Why Zachary Levi Was the “Natural Fit”
Lauren Petterson, president of Fox Nation, said Levi was an ideal choice to lead the project. “His sincerity and connection to the material allow King David’s story to come alive in a way that feels relevant to today’s viewers,” she said.
Levi himself has spoken passionately about the project, calling David’s story one of the most powerful in scripture. “Aside from the account of Christ, the story of David is the most powerful in all of scripture,” he said, noting that David’s humanity and flaws make his journey deeply relatable. “He was fully human, and therefore flawed, like us.”
The actor has also described the project as a long-held personal ambition, saying it was a story he had wanted to help tell since childhood.
Expanding Fox Nation’s Faith Strategy
The series is produced by Warm Springs Productions, with David L. Cunningham, Marc Pierce, Chris Richardson, and Bridger Pierce serving as executive producers. It represents another step in Fox Nation’s strategy to invest heavily in faith-based and values-driven programming, an area seeing renewed interest across streaming platforms.
Episodes will be released weekly, aligning with Fox Nation’s approach to serialized documentary storytelling.
Levi’s Career and Public Profile
Levi is best known for starring as the DC superhero in Shazam! and for his earlier role as Chuck Bartowski in NBC’s Chuck. He is also a Tony Award nominee for She Loves Me and a SAG Award winner for The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. Beyond entertainment, Levi made headlines last year for publicly supporting Donald Trump’s return to the White House, adding a layer of public interest to his latest high-profile project.
With David: King of Israel, Fox Nation is betting that Levi’s star power and personal conviction will help bring biblical storytelling to a new generation of viewers.
