Andela, a startup that teaches coding to young software developers from Africa and then gives them full time jobs in international companies, has found a big investor in Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg.
Recently, Mark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan’s fund Chan Zuckerberg Initiative (CZI) has led a $24 million funding along with GV (Google Ventures) to back Andela. By backing the Lagos based startup Zuckerberg seems to be affirming the talks of Africa being the next technological hub and resource pool iof the world. Andela fills a less talked about vacuum in the US for good software developers. By training and managing employment to African youth who are passionate about programming Andela not only fills the vacuum but also helps create opportunities in software development among Africans.
The company currently has 20 engineers across Nairobi, Kenya, and Lagos, Nigeria. The new funding will help Andela to expand across Africa.
