Singham Again: Ajay Devgn’s Latest Film Nears ₹200 Crore Globally in Opening Weekend
Ajay Devgn and Rohit Shetty’s Singham Again, the latest addition to Shetty’s celebrated cop universe, has made a powerful debut at the box office. The Hindi film amassed over ₹100 crore domestically in just three days, quickly climbing toward a global total of ₹200 crore. Released during the Diwali holiday, Singham Again has drawn massive crowds, capitalizing on the festive season and the popularity of Devgn’s reprisal of his role as Bajirao Singham.
Opening day collections saw Singham Again rake in an impressive ₹43.5 crore in India, benefiting from the holiday spirit and a strong fan base for Shetty’s franchise. By Saturday, the film earned an additional ₹42.5 crore, slightly lower than Friday’s opening but still substantial, bringing the two-day domestic total to ₹85 crore. Sunday added another ₹35 crore to the domestic box office, making the total ₹121 crore for India alone.
Despite its success, the film has shown a gradual decrease in collections, suggesting a levelling trend after the initial Diwali surge. Throughout Sunday, theatre occupancy varied across time slots, with evening shows achieving the highest occupancy at around 69.64%, while morning shows recorded lower figures at approximately 27.29%. This trend often accompanies the conclusion of major holidays, but Singham Again’s robust numbers still indicate a strong audience response and a possible Diwali Blockbuster status.
Globally, Singham Again has accumulated around ₹132 crore from Friday through Saturday. This impressive figure hints that the film may surpass the ₹200 crore mark worldwide, solidifying its position as a Diwali blockbuster. Comparatively, Singham Again outperformed Singham Returns, the 2014 predecessor in the franchise, which brought in ₹45.64 crore during its opening weekend. Simmba and Sooryavanshi, other instalments in Rohit Shetty’s cop universe, earned ₹54.3 crores and ₹50.79 crores, respectively, in their opening weekends.
Notably, Ajay Devgn’s Singham Again shares the Diwali spotlight with Kartik Aaryan’s Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, which has also attracted significant attention, reaching ₹106 crore by the end of its opening weekend. While Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 trails slightly behind, both films showcase the box office potential during festive periods, particularly in India.
Singam Again marks a continued success for Ajay Devgn and Rohit Shetty’s collaboration, which began with Singham in 2011 and popularized the action-packed, law-enforcement-themed universe. This latest chapter in the cop franchise has clearly resonated with fans, leveraging nostalgia, high-octane action, and Devgn’s commanding on-screen presence.
As it heads into its first full week, Singham Again will face the challenge of maintaining momentum post-Diwali. For now, however, it stands as one of the season’s biggest hits and reinforces Shetty’s reputation for delivering high-stakes, crowd-pleasing cinema.
