Karine Jean-Pierre Quits Democratic Party, Calls U.S. Politics ‘Broken’ in Explosive New Book
In a move sending shockwaves through Washington, former White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre has publicly broken from the Democratic Party — and she’s putting the system on blast in a new tell-all memoir. Titled Independent: A Look Inside a Broken White House, Outside the Party Lines, the book is set to hit shelves in October under Hachette’s Legacy Lit imprint. In it, Jean-Pierre urges Americans to abandon rigid party loyalty and instead “embrace life as independents.”
The political operative, who made history as the first Black and first openly LGBTQ+ person to serve as White House Press Secretary, delivers what’s being billed as a “groundbreaking, revelatory assessment of America’s broken two-party system.”
According to promotional materials, Karine Jean-Pierre details the emotional and political turmoil surrounding President Biden’s decision to drop out of the 2024 race, revealing behind-the-scenes betrayal within the Democratic Party that led to her own break with it.
“She takes us through the three weeks that led to Biden’s abandoning his bid for a second term,” the publisher says, “and the betrayal by the Democratic Party that led to his decision.”
Joe Biden exited the race last July amid mounting concerns about his cognitive and physical health. Karine Jean-Pierre, 50, has since become a vocal critic of how her party handled the situation, describing it earlier this year as “a firing squad around a person who I believe was a true patriot.”
In a personal Instagram video posted Wednesday, Karine Jean-Pierre spoke candidly about her motivation for writing the book and stepping away from partisan politics.
“The number one question I get is: ‘How do we get out of this? How do we protect our democracy?’” she said. “I think we need to stop thinking in boxes and not be so partisan.”
Karine Jean-Pierre emphasised that unity, not uniformity, is the path forward, saying she’s willing to stand with anyone “as long as you respect the community I belong to and vulnerable communities I respect.”

The former Barack Obama and Joe Biden aide’s book also tackles the rise of disinformation and political division in recent years, offering what the publisher describes as “passionate insight for moving forward.”
The timing of her announcement is particularly striking. With the 2024 election season in full swing and voters increasingly disillusioned with both major parties, Karine Jean-Pierre’s declaration may resonate with a growing bloc of independents — or spark intense backlash from her former Democratic allies.
Independent isn’t just a memoir; it’s a political grenade lobbed squarely at America’s partisan gridlock — and it might just be the wake-up call the country didn’t know it needed.
