Erratic NEET-UG Scores Spark Controversy Amidst Major Paper Leak Investigation
Among the most notable findings was the Rajkot centre, where over 240 candidates scored above 600 marks. Remarkably, one candidate achieved a perfect score of 720, and 11 others scored 700 or above. The School of Engineering at RK University in Rajkot stood out with 12 candidates scoring exceptionally high, raising questions about the integrity of the exam at this center.
The NEET-UG 2024 results have revealed a surprising number of high scorers at several exam centres, even as the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) continues its probe into the alleged paper leak. The National Testing Agency (NTA) published the results centre-wise, as per the Supreme Court’s directive, highlighting the significant discrepancies at specific locations.
Exceptional Scores at Rajkot Center
Among the most notable findings was the Rajkot centre, where over 240 candidates scored above 600 marks. Remarkably, one candidate achieved a perfect score of 720, and 11 others scored 700 or above. The School of Engineering at RK University in Rajkot stood out, with 12 candidates scoring exceptionally high, raising questions about the integrity of the exam at this centre.
Other centres also displayed unusual patterns. In Haryana’s Rohtak, 45 candidates at the Model School centre scored above 600 marks. Similarly, in Rajasthan’s Sikar, more than 150 candidates from one centre scored between 600 and 700 marks. These irregularities have fueled ongoing suspicions and scrutiny.
The Hardayal Public School centre in Jhajjar, Haryana, which was previously under the scanner, saw a significant drop in high scores after the Supreme Court ordered a retest. Only 13 candidates scored above 600 in the revised results, with none scoring above 682.

CBI’s Arrests and Ongoing Investigation
In a significant development, the CBI has arrested Shashi Kumar Paswan, the alleged mastermind behind the paper leak, along with two MBBS students, Kumar Mangla Bishnoi and Deependra Kumar. Paswan, a B.Tech graduate from NIT Jamshedpur, is said to be closely associated with Rakesh Ranjan, another critical figure in the leak. The arrests have brought to light a network of ‘solvers’ who allegedly facilitated the cheating scheme.
According to the CBI, Paswan and the ‘solvers’ had gathered in Patna on the eve of the exam to memorize answers, which they then used to help candidates during the test. This organized operation underscores the complexity and reach of the cheating network.

Impact on the Examination Process
The Supreme Court’s order to publish results while masking candidates’ identities aimed to provide transparency without compromising the students’ future. However, the revelations have intensified calls for a thorough investigation and potentially re-evaluating the affected exams.
With the next hearing scheduled for July 22, the Supreme Court will continue to address petitions seeking the cancellation of the exam, a retest, and a court-monitored probe into the allegations of malpractice. The Court’s decisions in the coming days will be crucial in determining the course of action and ensuring the credibility of the NEET-UG examination process.
