India’s largest curated meal marketplace Dazo holds funding rounds
Bangalore-based online food court Dazo today announced a funding round that included some of India’s most eminent industry veterans. It also announced a rebranding from it’s previous avatar, TapCibo. Founded in October 2014 by Shashaank Shekhar Singhal, ex-Redbus Director of Mobile Products and Monica Rastogi, Founder of Explore-in-Android, Dazo works on the vision of its founders’ technical backgrounds –to integrate technology to automate and optimize the logistics of food delivery.
Dazo’s USP is to provide a fresh and curated menu to its consumers along with a seamless ordering experience that requires just 3 taps on an Android phone. Consumers can make completely cashless transactions using the company’s seamless wallet. Moreover, lunch, dinner and evening snack options change on a daily basis while showcasing a multitude of cuisines. Dazo has collaborated with restaurants in nearby vicinities and established food entrepreneurs to open its arms to a large array of highly scalable supply of unique handcrafted meals that can cater to an ever-increasing demand from consumers.
Participating investors in the funding round included notable online entrepreneurs of the start-up industry like Sumit Jain, Co-founder and CEO of CommonFloor; Aprameya Radhakrishna, Co-founder, TaxiForSure; Alok Goel ,former CEO, FreeCharge; experienced industry professionals such as Rajan Anandan , Managing Director, Google India; Amit Agrawal, Country Manager, Amazon India; Vinay Goel, Director Product Management, Google Maps & Local; and leading hospitality entrepreneurs such as Ashish Dev Kapur Co-founder, Yo! China, amongst others.
As per their press note, the new funds acquired will be used for enhancing the product, technology and scaling operations into many new areas. Currently, Dazo has gained a large following of hundreds of satisfied customers in Bangalore in and around Indira Nagar, Domlur, Koramangala, Old Airport Road and Bagmane Tech Park.
Coming back to the funding round, Sumit Jain, Co-founder and CEO, CommonFloor said “I am very impressed with the caliber and experience of Dazo’s founding team. They have been able to build a superior product experience at such an early stage. The complementary skill sets of the seed investors and advisors will further aid the growth of the business”.
Apremeya Radhakrishna, Co-founder, TaxiForSure, further added “The food tech industry is very similar to the taxi industry with a lot of real-time logistics and tracking technologies involved. The Dazo team has built very sophisticated systems and a scalable technology platform from the inception of the business”.
Alok Goel, Former CEO of FreeCharge and currently CEO – New Businesses, FreeCharge said, “Food is the highest frequency e-commerce segment and Dazo has shown very high customer engagement along with industry-leading repeat rates and cohorts. The team has build a highly positive unit economics business that’s scaling rapidly through technology innovation”.
VCs have already shown a massive interest in such start-ups. With foodtech being the hottest trend in start-ups, the growth of companies like Dazo depicts a small peek at a bright and lucrative future.
