Capcom Drops Surprise Trailer for Resident Evil Requiem, Confirms February 2026 Release Date
Capcom has officially announced Resident Evil Requiem, the ninth entry in the legendary survival horror franchise, with a surprise trailer reveal and a confirmed release date: February 27, 2026. The big news on Resident Evil 9 came during the final minutes of the 2025 Summer Game Fest in Los Angeles, catching fans off guard after a teaser-filled but trailer-free presentation earlier in the show.
The new title will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam, marking a significant return for one of gaming’s most iconic horror franchises as it approaches its 30th anniversary in March 2026.
At the Summer Fame Fest 2025, Capcom game director Jun Takeuchi set the stage for the reveal with a heartfelt video message thanking fans for their support over three decades:
“Thanks to all of you, Resident Evil is about to celebrate its 30th anniversary this coming March. We truly appreciate your continued support. Now, about the latest Resident Evil game you’ve all been waiting for, bear with us a little longer, just a blink of an eye more, and it’ll be ready.”
Twenty minutes later, Capcom delivered, unveiling the Resident Evil Requiem trailer as the grand finale of Summer Game Fest 2025.
While specific plot details remain tightly under wraps, the trailer teased a chilling, high-stakes atmosphere, featuring a devastated cityscape, grotesque new bio-weapons, and cryptic dialogue hinting at the return of familiar characters. Fans are already speculating whether franchise staples like Chris Redfield, Jill Valentine, or Leon Kennedy will play a role, or if a new protagonist will take the spotlight.
Resident Evil Requiem follows Resident Evil Village (2021), which was both a critical and commercial hit, continuing the story of Ethan Winters and introducing the now-iconic Lady Dimitrescu. Village pushed the boundaries of immersive horror, and Requiem is expected to elevate the formula even further with next-gen capabilities and more refined gameplay.

The Resident Evil series began in 1996, created by Shinji Mikami and Tokuro Fujiwara, and has since evolved into a cultural juggernaut. With more than 146 million units sold worldwide, the franchise encompasses not only games but also blockbuster films, Netflix adaptations, and an extensive global fan base.
As Capcom leans into nostalgia while advancing the franchise with fresh innovation, Resident Evil Requiem is poised to be a cornerstone release in 2026 — and a fitting tribute to 30 years of zombie-slaying legacy.
Fans can watch the full trailer online now and start the countdown to what could be one of the most anticipated horror game releases of the decade.
