PETRONAS Lubricants International Unveils Market-First JASO-Certified Oils in Japan
PETRONAS Lubricants International (PLI) has set a new benchmark in the global automotive lubricants industry with the debut of its first-to-market Japanese Automotive Standards Organization (JASO)-certified lubricants for Japan’s newest generation of advanced engines. The landmark announcement was made at the Tokyo Auto Salon 2026, reinforcing PETRONAS’ growing focus on innovation, localisation, and performance-driven mobility solutions.
A Milestone Launch at Tokyo Auto Salon 2026
The launch introduces two flagship products tailored specifically for the Japanese market: PETRONAS Syntium Supreme for passenger vehicles and PETRONAS Urania 5000 for personal mobility. Senior leadership from PETRONAS Lubricants International and authorised distributor Petroplan Co. Ltd officiated the unveiling, marking a significant step in expanding PETRONAS’ footprint in one of the world’s most technically demanding automotive markets.
These lubricants are among the first globally to be officially certified under the latest JASO standards, designed to support modern engines prioritising fuel efficiency, lower emissions, and long-term durability.
PETRONAS Syntium Supreme: Built for Japan’s Next-Gen Cars
Engineered for high-efficiency passenger vehicles, PETRONAS Syntium Supreme 0W-16 and 0W-20 with JASO GLV2 certification exceed the latest API SQ and ILSAC GF-7B performance standards. The formulation uses PETRONAS’ proprietary CoolTech+™ Technology, which actively manages excess heat and oxidation—two major contributors to engine wear.
According to PLI, the advanced formulation prevents deposit build-up, maintains engine cleanliness across the full drain interval, and delivers fuel efficiency improvements of up to 19%. Enhanced shear stability also ensures consistent protection under high-stress driving conditions, making it well-suited for Japan’s latest compact and hybrid powertrains.

PETRONAS Urania 5000 Enters Japan With JASO DL-1
The debut of PETRONAS Urania 5000 JASO DL-1 0W-30 marks the first time the Urania range has entered the Japanese market. It is also one of the few products globally registered under the JASO DL-1 standard, a category known for limited availability.
Formulated with PETRONAS StrongTech™ Technology, Urania 5000 strengthens the oil film to support longer engine life, improved reliability, and extended drain intervals. The result is reduced maintenance downtime, maximised vehicle uptime, and improved fuel economy—key advantages for personal mobility and light commercial applications.
Driving Localised Innovation for Japan
The new product range highlights PETRONAS Lubricants International’s strategy of blending global R&D expertise with local performance requirements. By addressing Japan’s stringent engine standards and evolving mobility needs, PLI aims to drive the future of engine efficiency, durability, and sustainability.
All newly launched JASO-certified products are now available across Japan through Petroplan, PETRONAS Lubricants International’s authorised distributor.
