Amazon to join ONDC with Logistics and SmartCommerce offerings
Global e-commerce leader Amazon announced on Friday that it will work with the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), a private non-profit company run by the Union government, to integrate its logistics network (from pickup to delivery) and SmartCommerce services.
In a statement, the multinational giant said that MSMEs in India can build and scale their businesses using digital platforms with the help of the AWS-powered SmartCommerce suite, which also includes tools for onboarding to the ONDC network. It will be the company’s first collaboration with ONDC.
“Amazon’s vision and commitment for India is closely aligned with ONDC’s objectives of digitally enabling small businesses, and providing convenience and choice to customers across the country”, said Manish Tiwary, Country Manager, India Consumer Business, Amazon India.
T Koshy, MD & CEO of ONDC said on the collaboration: “We are happy that Amazon has a definite roadmap to being a part of the ONDC network and is taking its first step in coming in as the logistics partner in the ONDC network which is a globally pioneering idea established with a view to democratise digital commerce in India.”
In India, Amazon has over 11 lakh sellers, with more than half hailing from tier 2-3 cities.
