Aadyam Theatre Launches Season 7 with “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time”
Aadyam Theatre, the Aditya Birla Group’s celebrated initiative to promote modern theatre, is back for its seventh season. This year, it will focus on adapting iconic literature into compelling stage performances. This year, Aadyam Theatre Season 7 promises to elevate live storytelling through five meticulously chosen proscenium plays across Mumbai and Delhi, bringing world-class theatre experiences to Indian audiences. The season is set to open with a riveting adaptation of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, directed by Atul Kumar, reimagining the bestselling novel by Mark Haddon.
Since its launch in 2015, Aadyam Theatre has captivated over 150,000 theatre enthusiasts, presenting 25 acclaimed productions. This season, programmed by renowned theatre personalities Nadir Khan and Shernaz Patel, continues the legacy by offering plays that celebrate storytelling’s power to entertain, educate, and inspire. Alongside The Curious Incident, the season’s lineup includes celebrated plays from directors like Sunil Shanbag and Purva Naresh, covering genres from suspense to comedy.
The opening production, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, brings to life the story of Christopher Boone, a fifteen-year-old with exceptional skills in math and logic, as he investigates the mysterious death of a neighbour’s dog. Originally adapted by Simon Stephens, the play has won numerous accolades, including Olivier and Tony Awards. Kumar’s adaptation of this story moves the setting to Mumbai, giving it a local flair while preserving the novel’s original depth and emotional resonance. Using projections, dynamic physical movements, and an evocative soundtrack, the production immerses the audience in Christopher’s unique worldview, where heightened sensory experiences challenge him and those around him.
The play boasts a stellar cast, including Jaimini Pathak (Scam 1992), Dilnaz Irani (Sense8), Shivani Tanksale (The Dirty Picture), Salone Mehta (The Archies), and Harssh Singh (Rocket Boys). Each actor brings distinct energy to the stage, capturing the essence of the story’s rich character dynamics. Kumar states, “Our adaptation shifts the narrative from London to Mumbai, giving our audience characters they recognise in their everyday lives while immersing them in the vast, beautiful world of Christopher’s mind.”
As Aadyam Theatre prepares to launch its latest season, theatre lovers can look forward to engaging performances that explore the intricate human experience. Tickets are expected to go live soon on Insider.in, with early-bird access available through Aadyam’s official community newsletter.
