Ryan Gosling Reportedly Eyed for Ghost Rider Role in Marvel’s Cinematic Universe

Hollywood heartthrob Ryan Gosling could be heading straight into the flames—literally. According to recent online chatter, Gosling is reportedly being considered for the role of Ghost Rider in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), sparking a frenzy of speculation among fans and comic book enthusiasts alike.

The rumours ignited when an anonymous (and now deleted) X account, @rejectedscooper, posted: “Ryan Gosling will portray Ghost Rider in the MCU.” While the source lacked credibility and the post quickly disappeared, the buzz continued to blaze across social media platforms.

Adding fuel to the fire, a follow-up tweet claimed that Johnny Blaze—the original Ghost Rider—would make his official MCU debut in an upcoming Ghost Rider & The Midnight Sons film, with Ryan Gosling at the helm. The Midnight Sons, a fan-favourite supernatural team in Marvel Comics, includes dark heroes like Blade, Moon Knight, and Doctor Strange.

However, Marvel Studios has yet to confirm any casting news. A reputable fan account, Marvel Updates, clarified: “Ryan Gosling has not been officially cast as Ghost Rider.” Still, the excitement persists, primarily because Ryan Gosling himself expressed interest in playing the character in a 2022 interview. “Ghost Rider is the one I’d love to do,” he said at the time.

Previous Ghost Riders

If confirmed, Ryan Gosling would not be the first actor to bring Ghost Rider to life. Nicolas Cage famously portrayed Johnny Blaze in two non-MCU films in the 2000s. More recently, Gabriel Luna donned the leather jacket and flaming skull as Robbie Reyes in Agents of SHIELD Season 4. While Luna’s take on the character received praise, the show’s canonicity within the MCU remains a topic of debate.

Why Gosling Fits the Role

Ryan Gosling, known for his versatility across genres—from musicals like La La Land to action thrillers like Drive—could offer a fresh and brooding take on the cursed vigilante. With Marvel entering a darker, more mystical phase post-Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Blade, a Gosling-led Ghost Rider would be a timely addition to the evolving franchise.

He’s also no stranger to fan-casting hype. In the past, Gosling’s name has been floated for roles like Sentry in Thunderbolts and even Reed Richards in Fantastic Four. While those didn’t materialise, the Ghost Rider buzz feels more grounded thanks to Gosling’s own interest and the direction Marvel appears to be taking.

What’s Next?

While this potential casting remains unconfirmed, Marvel fans are already imagining Gosling revving up the Hell Cycle. With Blade, Deadpool & Wolverine, and Fantastic Four on the horizon, Marvel seems poised to embrace its darker, edgier side. Whether Ryan Gosling officially joins the MCU or not, one thing is clear—the ghost of Johnny Blaze is riding back into the spotlight.
