Mighty Speculation: Sunburn 2013 May Not Happen
In what appears to be a letter from the Department of Tourism of the Goa government issued by the state-level event permission company (SLEPC), a clear cut instruction has been laid out stating that Percept Live, the organizers of Sunburn, will not be allowed to conduct the festival this year until the bribery allegations levelled against them are cleared out. Ironically, this threat came out a day after the festival’s partial line-up was announced.
Already in a tight situation after splitting up with Submerge festival director Nikhil Chinapa (read here), Percept Live remains mum on countering the allegations against them. Adding to their miseries is the announcement of Goa Beach Grind, an EDM festival that will slide into the shoes of Sunburn as a replacement at South Goa’s Betalbatim beach from December 27 to 29, as was announced by Goa’s tourism minister, Franciso Miccky Pacheco. This new festival, however, is still awaiting a clearance confirmation from the government.
For those of you avidly waiting for Sunburn to take place this year, until the management at Percept Live comes out and defends their cause, Sunburn may actually not see the sun this time around.
