Swedish House Mafia’s Film Comes in India
In 2012, when EDM biggies Swedish House Mafia, better known as SHM, decided to split up, for reasons best known to them, they threw open a hornet’s nest among their growing fan base. Many reasons were cited for the split including fear of stagnation, experimenting with newer options, and so on. But not one specific cause was pinned down. However despite the split, the trio have been promoting their documentary film titled Leave The World Behind that released on March 12, which highlights landmark incidents during their last tour. Following the premiere at the SXSW Film Festival, SHM, comprising Axwell, Steve Angello and Sebastian Ingrosso are now bringing their documentary to theaters in India at PVR cinemas – in Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bangalore and Pune on March 21; whose tickets can be bought March 19 onward.
While the exact reason for the split is something the documentary is going to be using as a selling pitch, Steve Angello has reportedly said, “We had an amazing run and a very long run, so it feels pretty good to have some space to just relax a little bit.” With songs like “Don’t You Worry Child”, “Greyhound” and “One” becoming dance anthems in the last couple of years, SHM have been releasing short promotional clips (like this, this and this), a sort of a sneak peak, to create buzz around the film. They have a total of twelve clips lined up before the official release of the film. What’s more is that they have released a set of newly designed posters (see here).
From not being permitted to perform at one of the world’s most coveted venues 10 years ago, Madison Square Garden in New York, to being the talk of the town when they split up, theirs was a journey that escalated faster beyond anyone’s imagination. In fact, majority of urban Indian crowds warmed themselves to the genre of EDM with the coming down of SHM in 2012 as part of their last tour titled One Last Tour that saw the trio doing a staggering number of 52 shows around the globe.
SHM was originally formed in 2008 and have since performed at colossal music festivals including Ultra Miami Festival. In 2010, they released their debut documentary on DVD titled Take One. The director of Take One Christian Larson commented on it saying, “It’s not narrated at all. It’s just sequences of them and it’s made into a story. It’s all chronological. It’s just us following them around and they become characters in their own film. It all happened pretty naturally. It was pretty easy because they are all such strong characters, all three of them.” This statement points to one thing – the new documentary will present a lot more drama on the trio’s escapades of their last tour.
