The New Old Neighbourhood Bar in Town
Turquoise Cottage in DLF Place Saket, brings back several old memories and makes way for new
We have all been there done that, made those memories, met new friends, and got our two minutes-under-karaoke-spotlight drunken or not. The dilliwallahs feel how Turquoise Cottage has grown with them, we saw some of our favourite gigs over there in our Old-Monk and Mojito days (we tried out their Mango and Mint flavoured one this time around though) and we’re proud as punch to see the shiny spanking new den that we have now, replete with glowing wooden arches and stucco walls.
To See
The neo-hipster-ish decor leaves us pleased and at home, and the plentiful seating area is an add-on, knowing how crowded an evening at Turquoise Cottage might get. The buffed-up wooden chairs are drawn up to long tables which end up inevitably in a casual evening of bonhomie and ease people out towards a ‘getting-to-know-thy-neighbour’ situation, stranger-bonding over vintage rock can be extremely pleasurable.
There’s a hip new crowd, and the new Turquoise Cottage is already quite the popular joint. (No surprises there). The painted blue wooden chairs pay tribute to the hilly name figuratively as well as literally so. Turquoise Cottage, Saket, has come of age, with a more mature vibe and its considerable amount of seating area, and hardwood finish floors.

To Do
We’re glad to discover their Rabbit-hole sessions, a live stage for upcoming musicians to come and play for us – music not complicated by big bad studio market economics – is still alive and kicking. So is a lively dance floor post 10 pm as the resident DJ belts out funky numbers and the lights go dim, dim dim. The karaoke nights, a staple with them is something we will look out for (and populate from time to time). If you find your way there by Sunday, you could even have a lazy Sunday brunch to live music. Ah bliss!
To Conquer
While we remember the juicy Chicken Satay and Peanut sauce and Thai Green Curry and rice from the TC of yore, the menu has evolved beyond pan-Asian and Thai cuisine to include Japanese dishes, a live teppenyaki grill, stir fry items right out of a Chinese wok, a khao suey station, a salad bar and other Asian delicacies described with contemporary Americanised nom de plumes. Rock and Sushi did meet and honeymoon together on the fateful night we were there in our new-old neighbourhood bar.
We never thought we’d sit in our Delhi bar and order in a combo of tequila shots and bento boxes over garage rock music from the 60s. If this is Delhi’s neighbourhood bar, Delhi has arrived.
