Ed Sheeran Reveals Plans for Posthumous Album “Eject”
Global superstar Ed Sheeran has never been one to follow the crowd, and now he’s planning something few artists openly address: his posthumous album. In a recent conversation with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe, the singer revealed that an album titled Eject will be released after his death — and it’s already written into his will.
Ed Sheeran explained that his wife, Cherry Seaborn, has been entrusted with curating the record. “It’s actually in my will, and Cherry gets to pick the tracks for it,” he told Lowe. “My wish is to make a record out of all the songs from the age of 18, so when I pass away, she can choose the 10 best.”
Why “Eject” Will Be Different
Unlike most posthumous albums, which labels or estates often stitch together, Ed Sheeran wants his project to feel intentional. “You know how posthumous albums come out, but they’re sort of unplanned? I don’t want to go and someone just jumble up stuff and put it out. I want it to be planned,” he said.
By handing the creative reins to his wife Cherry Seaborn, Ed Sheeran believes the record will avoid the pitfalls of rushed or profit-driven releases. Instead, Eject will serve as a profoundly personal retrospective — spanning his career from teenage recordings to future material.
He added that while some fans may find the idea morbid, others will see it as “super interesting,” likening it to uncovering early Beatles demos if Paul McCartney had left such instructions.

Building a Musical Legacy
Ed Sheeran recently released Play, the first in a planned five-album series inspired by media control symbols, with upcoming records titled Pause, Fast Forward, Rewind, and Stop. This creative arc mirrors his earlier mathematics-themed albums, such as +, x, and ÷, which helped define his career.
With Eject, Ed Sheeran is going even further — crafting what he hopes will be the “perfect” album over his lifetime. Speaking to Rolling Stone in 2023, he said: “I want to slowly make this album that is quote-unquote ‘perfect’ for the rest of my life, adding songs here and there, and just have it in my will that after I die, it comes out.”

A Career Still in Motion
Despite talk of legacy, Ed Sheeran shows no signs of slowing down. His eighth studio album Play dropped in September, and he has hinted at future collaborations, including a recent performance with Filipino band Ben&Ben. With stadium tours, chart-topping singles, and now a long-term vision for music after his passing, Sheeran continues to rewrite the rules of modern pop stardom.
For fans, one thing is certain: there will be more Ed Sheeran music to discover — both now and long after he’s gone.
