Microsoft launched Skype Lite an exclusive “Made for India” app with some great features

Speaking at the Future Decoded event in Mumbai, Satya Nadella, CEO Microsoft launched Skype Lite – an exclusive “Made for India” app. The app aims to provide seamless audio-video calling and messaging at lower bandwidths.

“Packed in a 13MB file, the new app is available only for Android devices and is especially designed to save data,” said the Indian-born CEO of Microsoft.

Along with Hindi, the app will support regional Indian languages including Tamil, Bengali, Telugu, Marathi and Gujarati. It will also categorise the internet usage in two sections – mobile data being used or Wifi.

The lightweight app allows a user to make it the default calling and messaging app as it will serve as an all-in-one with functionalities of integrated calling and SMS. Users will be able to share multimedia files without having to download them to the device.

Using artificial intelligence (AI), Microsoft has also made it possible to segregate junk messages from important ones where normal text messages, promotional messages and Skype message will be under three different categories.

One of the most interesting features on Skype Lite is that it houses an integrated camera app that runs on fun bots and AI. Through a selfie, these bots can tell what the age a person is and his/her character. Skype Lite will also have a dark theme to make it less stressful on the eyes while working in the dark.
