Gracie Abrams to Make Acting Debut in A24 Film ‘Please’ From ‘Babygirl’ Director Halina Reijn

The singer, who is the daughter of filmmaker J.J. Abrams and executive Katie McGrath, has long been adjacent to the film world — making her transition to acting feel both inevitable and carefully timed.

Gracie Abrams is officially stepping into Hollywood. The Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter is set to make her acting debut in an upcoming A24 feature titled Please, written and directed by Babygirl filmmaker Halina Reijn. The project marks a major career pivot for Abrams as she balances a booming music career with her first on-screen role.

A24 and Halina Reijn Reunite for Another Provocative Drama

While plot details remain tightly under wraps, sources describe Please as a period female drama that continues the edgy, intimate romance themes Haline Reijn explored in Babygirl. Reijn will write and direct the film, reuniting with producer David Hinojosa, following their successful collaborations on Bodies Bodies Bodies and Babygirl.

Reijn will produce through her Man Up Film banner, with A24 financing and producing the project. Zach Nutman is on board as executive producer, solidifying the film’s strong indie pedigree.

The collaboration further cements Halina Reijn’s status as one of A24’s most trusted creative voices after Babygirl became one of the studio’s biggest global hits.

Gracie Abrams’ Natural Evolution Into Acting

Abrams is best known for her emotionally candid songwriting, with breakout tracks like “I Love You, I’m Sorry,” “That’s So True,” and “Close To You.” Since debuting in 2019, she has steadily grown into one of pop music’s most compelling voices, earning Grammy nominations and selling out her first solo North American arena tour after opening for Taylor Swift.

Just days before the casting news broke, Abrams hinted at acting ambitions during a Chanel Coco Crush jewelry event at Chateau Marmont. Now, fans have their answer.

Music Still Front and Center for Abrams

Despite her acting debut, Gracie Abrams isn’t stepping away from music. She is currently preparing to release new music expected in 2026, which she recently described as the most personal work of her career. “It’s definitely my favorite music I’ve ever made,” Abrams said, emphasizing how closely connected she feels to the upcoming album.

The singer, who is the daughter of filmmaker J.J. Abrams and executive Katie McGrath, has long been adjacent to the film world — making her transition to acting feel both inevitable and carefully timed.

With A24 backing the project and Halina Reijn at the helm, Please positions Gracie Abrams for a prestige-focused acting introduction, rather than a traditional pop-star crossover. The move signals a thoughtful expansion of her creative identity — one rooted in vulnerability, storytelling, and artistic risk.

As Abrams continues to evolve across music and film, Please may be the beginning of a compelling second act.
