Netflix Unveils Splinter Cell: Deathwatch Trailer, Poster & Voice Cast at Anime NYC

Sam Fisher is back, and this time he’s animated. Netflix has finally dropped the official teaser trailer for Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Deathwatch at Anime NYC, sending longtime fans of the stealth-action franchise into a frenzy. Alongside the trailer, Netflix revealed new poster art and a stacked voice cast for the highly anticipated series.

Sam Fisher Returns, New Characters Debut

Veteran actor Liev Schreiber will voice legendary covert operative Sam Fisher, bringing gravitas to the fan-favorite character. Joining him are Kirby (The Sandman) as Zinnia McKenna, Janet Varney (The Legend of Korra) reprising Anna Grimsdottir, and Joel Oulette (Avatar: The Last Airbender) as Thunder.

While Grimsdottir will be familiar to players as Fisher’s trusted tech officer, Zinnia and Thunder are brand-new additions created specifically for Deathwatch. According to Netflix’s synopsis, the plot follows Fisher as he’s “drawn back into the field when a wounded young operative seeks out his help.” Fans are speculating that Zinnia fills that role, setting up an emotional mentor-protégé dynamic at the series’ core.

A Story Tied to Chaos Theory

The series takes place after the events of Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory (2005), with the trailer teasing the funeral of Douglas Shetland — Fisher’s former ally whom he was forced to kill in the game. This direct continuity nod suggests that Deathwatch isn’t just a standalone spinoff but an extension of the main Splinter Cell timeline.

The project comes with serious creative weight: Derek Kolstad, the creator of John Wick, is writing the series, ensuring sharp action and gritty storytelling. Executive producers include Kolstad, Helene Juguet, Hugo Revon, and Ubisoft Film & Television’s Gerard Guillemot, while Guillaume Dousse and Félicien Colmet-Daage direct with animation handled by Sun Creature and Fost.

A Cinematic Animated Style

The teaser of Splinter Cell: Deathwatch with Liev Schreiber as Sam Fisher showcases a dark, cinematic animation style filled with heavy shadows, tactical gear, and heart-pounding stealth sequences. The new poster art, also revealed at Anime NYC, highlights Fisher in his iconic night-vision goggles — a reassuring image for longtime fans worried about faithfulness to the games.

Netflix Expands Its Gaming Universe

Splinter Cell: Deathwatch isn’t the only gaming-inspired project Netflix spotlighted at Anime NYC. Fans also got first looks at Devil May Cry Season 2, Blue Eye Samurai Season 2, Sakamoto Days, and Record of Ragnarok III. Still, it’s clear that Fisher’s return is stealing the spotlight.

Release Date and Hype

Splinter Cell: Deathwatch is set to launch on Netflix this fall. With a powerhouse voice cast, direct ties to the games, and Derek Kolstad’s signature action-driven storytelling, the series is shaping up to be a must-watch for both longtime fans and newcomers to the franchise.
