‘South Park’ Is Now ‘South America’: Creators Take Aim at Trump’s Renaming Spree

South Park has a new name, and Donald Trump appears to be the target. The creators of the long-running animated comedy have announced that the show will temporarily rebrand itself as “South America”, delivering another pointed joke at the US president following his push to rename major geographic landmarks.

Creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker announced the tongue-in-cheek rebrand on Tuesday, saying they were inspired by Apple and Google, which have changed certain geographic names displayed to US users.

“South Park” is now in its 29th season and has repeatedly used Trump as a target for political satire. The latest stunt comes just days after the series won another Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Animated Program.

Why Is ‘South Park’ Becoming ‘South America’?

The show’s creators framed the name change as a response to Trump’s recent attempts to put “America” into the names of major locations.

“Inspired by the bravery and patriotism of Apple and Google, we are changing the name of South Park to SOUTH AMERICA,” Matt Stone and Trey Parker said.

An accompanying image showed the familiar South Park sign with “Park” replaced by “America.”

The joke comes after Trump has pursued several geographic renaming initiatives during his second presidency.

In January 2025, Trump signed an executive order directing the Gulf of Mexico to be renamed the Gulf of America in the United States.

More recently, his administration moved to rename Lake Ontario as Lake America for US government purposes. Google and Apple subsequently displayed the new name to US users, while naming conventions could differ for users in Canada and elsewhere.

Trump’s ‘New America’ Post Adds Fuel to the Joke

The latest South Park gag also followed Trump’s social media posts appearing to promote the idea of calling New Mexico “New America.”

That proposal differs from federal geographic-naming actions because Trump does not have the authority to unilaterally rename a US state.

New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham criticized the posts, arguing that the attention was being used to distract from other political issues.

For South Park, however, the timing was perfect.

The show’s creators used the Trump-era naming controversy to transform the title of one of television’s most recognizable comedies into a punchline.

‘Skydance Capitulation’: Another Paramount Joke

Matt Stone and Trey Parker also took a swipe at the company’s corporate leadership.

“We especially want to thank our parent company Paramount, a Skydance Capitulation,” they said.

The line references Paramount Skydance, South Park’s parent company, and the broader upheaval around major Hollywood consolidation.

The Trump administration previously approved a proposed $111 billion Warner Bros. Discovery and Paramount Skydance deal, although the transaction subsequently faced legal and regulatory complications.

Twelve US states have filed lawsuits challenging the proposed combination, arguing that the deal could reduce competition.

The proposed transaction has since been pushed into a longer timeline, with proceedings extending into 2027.

‘South Park’ Has Never Been Afraid of Trump

The rebrand is hardly the first time South Park has gone after Trump.

Since the show’s return to the political spotlight during Trump’s presidential campaigns and administrations, Parker and Stone have repeatedly portrayed a fictionalized version of the president.

The series has also drawn criticism from Trump’s political supporters and the White House.

During an earlier season, the White House dismissed the program as a struggling show desperate for attention after an episode depicted a fictionalized Trump in an intentionally outrageous scenario.

Rather than backing away, the creators have kept using Trump and his policies as material.

Emmy Win Makes the Timing Even Better

The “South America” announcement arrived shortly after another major achievement for the series.

South Park won the Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Animated Program, adding another award to a run that has made the series one of television’s most decorated animated comedies.

Following the win, the show’s official social media account posted another provocative image of its fictionalized Trump character holding an Emmy, accompanied by a congratulatory message aimed at Parker, Stone and the show’s team.

The series has won the Outstanding Animated Program Emmy five times, according to the Television Academy.

When Does the New ‘South Park’ Season Start?

The new season of South Park is scheduled to premiere on September 16, 2026.

The show’s latest name change may or may not last throughout the season. The creators have not indicated whether “South America” will become a permanent rebrand or simply serve as another piece of promotional satire.

Either way, South Park has once again turned a real political controversy into a punchline.

And this time, Trump’s America has apparently swallowed South Park whole.
