Elon Musk Slams U.S. Spending: ‘Debt Slavery Is Coming’ if Congress Doesn’t Stop the Bleeding

Billionaire entrepreneur and outspoken tech mogul Elon Musk is once again igniting political firestorms—this time over what he calls “disgusting” and “outrageous” government overspending. In a series of explosive posts on X (formerly Twitter), Musk warned that the U.S. is on a crash course toward “debt slavery” if leaders don’t dramatically rein in the nation’s ballooning deficit.“This immense level of overspending will drive America into debt slavery!” Elon Musk wrote early Wednesday, in response to the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, a major spending proposal that passed the House with bipartisan support, including key votes from House Republicans.

A Grim Fiscal Forecast

Musk’s comments come as the U.S. national debt has soared past $36 trillion, with interest payments alone eating up 25% of government revenue, according to the tech CEO. “If the massive deficit spending continues,” Musk posted, “there will only be money for interest payments and nothing else! No Social Security, no medical care, no defense—nothing.”

His message was as much a warning as it was a rebuke aimed at lawmakers who supported the legislation. “Shame on those who voted for it: you know you did wrong,” Musk continued. “This massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill is a disgusting abomination.”

A Growing Rift with Washington

Although the bill has been championed by President Donald Trump and passed the House last month, Elon Musk has emerged as one of its most vocal critics, calling it US debt slavery. When asked about Elon Musk’s criticism, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt dismissed it, saying, “The president already knows where Elon Musk stood on this bill. It doesn’t change the president’s opinion. This is one big, beautiful bill, and he’s stickin’ to it.”

Despite Trump’s defense, some GOP senators have begun to voice skepticism of the One Big Beautiful bill, aligning with Musk’s concerns about long-term financial sustainability.

Musk’s Warning Sparks Broader Debate

Musk’s latest social media barrage has helped spotlight a growing unease about America’s fiscal future. His phrase “debt slavery” has already started trending across platforms, with millions engaging in debates over whether the U.S. can afford its current level of deficit spending.

“Mammoth spending bills are bankrupting America! ENOUGH,” Elon Musk concluded in one of his final posts, as he called on lawmakers to adopt deep budget cuts and focus on national solvency.

Whether or not Congress listens remains to be seen—but one thing is clear: Musk’s warnings are adding fuel to an already intensifying national debate over government spending, debt, and fiscal responsibility.
