Akai MPK261: Performance USB/MIDI Pad and Keyboard Controller
Akai’s MPK keyboards have proven popular with musicians and producers who want to keep their keys, pads, knobs, faders and buttons in a single package. The range has now been updated, with new models across the price and size spectrum to a degree that almost makes it easy for the musician. With more and more functions being packed into the average MIDI keyboard, this new line (4 models) takes the cake. Complete with knobs, faders AND pads, it is also equipped with a pitch bend. Unveiled at the NAMM convention, California in late January, with four different models, its high price is totally worth it.
SIZE
The keyboard has 61 semi-weighted, full-size keys to ensure maximum dynamic and octave changing for the avid keyboardist. It also features 16 MPC pads with RGB illuminated feedback. The pads can be used for anything from drum programming to synth. A new layout with LCD screen for faster access to essential DAW-based functions is also included.
ASSIGNABILITY
With 8 assignable control knobs and 8 assignable faders, playing live electronic has never been easier. Updated control layout with backlit LCD screen makes for an easy integration of samples and live performance and is simpler to handle than just a plain MIDI controller.
PARAMETER CONTROL
Comprehensive transport and parameter controls for hands-on DAW integration ensures no sound jarring and a smooth dynamic between programmed instruments and live keyboard. Pitch bend, modulation and octave controls are also included vis a vis two bend knobs on the side. These essentially will electrify and boost a live keyboardist’s performance.
INPUTS AND SOFTWARE
USB-MIDI with 5-pin MIDI input and output. Expression and sustain pedal jack inputs for external pedals. Comprehensive production software package included with Ableton Live Lite, Hybrid 3 by AIR Music Tech, SONiVOX Twist 2.0, SONiVOX Eighty-Eight Ensemble and Akai Pro MPC Essentials, giving you the ultimate system to record, edit and mix.
