Ola Electric Scooters Cut Price to Rs 50,000 Amid Declining Sales

Ola Electric has been so far shaky in the electric two-wheeler market and is now taking significant steps to revitalize its sales amid growing challenges. The company recently announced a limited-time promotion dubbed the BOSS (Biggest Ola Season Sale), offering its base S1X electric scooter at a discounted price of Rs 49,999. This move comes as Ola Electric grapples with its lowest sales figures of 2024, recording just 23,965 units sold in September.

The BOSS sale aims to attract buyers ahead of the festive season and represents a considerable Rs 25,000 price cut from the original price of Rs 74,999. However, the promotion is exclusive to the S1X model, which features a 2 kWh battery, and the discounted price will only be available until stocks last. There is no specified end date for the offer, leaving the door open for prices to revert to the original amount at the company’s discretion.

Despite being India’s best-selling electric scooter brand, Ola Electric is facing increased competition from other manufacturers like TVS and Bajaj Chetak, which are gaining market share. As per a report by RushLane, widespread complaints regarding after-sales service have exacerbated the decline in sales. Reports indicate that the company receives around 80,000 complaints per month, with customers expressing dissatisfaction over service delays and product reliability.

To address these issues, Ola Electric is implementing several initiatives aimed at improving customer satisfaction and expanding its service network. The company plans to establish 1,000 new service centres by the end of December and is introducing AI-powered maintenance with Move OS 5. Additionally, Ola is training 100,000 third-party mechanics to enhance service quality and reduce repair turnaround times.

The situation has prompted some owners to express their frustration creatively, with one individual even setting an Ola showroom on fire in Karnataka as a protest against the company’s lack of responsive service. Ola Electric’s ability to navigate these challenges while maintaining its market position will be crucial as the electric vehicle sector continues to grow in India.

As the festive season approaches, all eyes will be on how effective the BOSS sale is in boosting sales and whether Ola Electric can successfully restore customer confidence in its after-sales service.
