Catch the Amphibian Series at Pune’s blueFROG Amphitheatre
With the actual club in the pipeline slated for an official launch sometime this year, blueFROG has created a make-shift venue called the blueFROG Ishanya Amphitheatre for its eager Pune audiences. Following last week’s performance by British EDM collective Above & Beyond, the amphitheatre plans to host Malian folk singer Fataoumata Diawara and Swiss electro-jazz band The Erik Truffaz Quartet(ETQ) on November 29 as part its Amphibian Series, which aims to bring in local as well as international acts to the city of Pune. The series will also see Anoushka Shankar and Dutch electro-dance DJ-producer Miss Nine doing shows on December 6 and December 14 respectively.
Fatoumata Diawara, otherwise a film and theatre actor, is known best for her debut album Fatou (Listen here) that transcends language barriers and tells tales of her struggles in Africa by blending poems into jazz-funk rhythms. She carries the image of a folk singer-songwriter from Paris, where she lives, to every corner of the world she visits on her tours.
The Eric Truffaz Quartet, led by French trumpeter Eric Truffaz, has a penchant for interspersing jazz tunes with various genres ranging from rock and roll to dance music. Categorized as advocators of the electro-jazz variety, the ETQ also experiment with Jazz fusion, acid jazz, nu-jazz and post-bop among other genres. The video below gives you a hint of what they’re like.
