Curbs eased in Delhi: Markets to open on odd-even basis, Metro to run at 50 pc capacity

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday announced a further relaxation of lockdown regulations starting Monday.  In a virtual press brief, the chief minister said that markets in the national capital will open on odd-even basis from Monday  and that malls can also resume their business but will be required to follow the same guidelines.



” Shops with odd numbers to open on one day, and those with even numbers to open on subsequent day, so on and so forth,” the chief minister said. The rule, however, will not be applicable for essential item shops and chemists which can open on all days, he added.

Private offices will be allowed to function with 50% capacity while 100 % attendance for Government offices with group A officers, 50% attendance from remaining category officials., according to the chief minister. Delhi Metro will also resume services from Monday but only with 50% capacity.

“As and when the situation keeps improving, more relaxations will be announced. This is what is being done currently,” said Mr Kejriwal.

Speaking about the Delhi government’s plan to tackle the third wave of the pandemic , the chief minister said that they trying to take all measures in this regard.

“We have set up a paediatric task force,” he announced referring to concerns that the children may be more at risk of catching a virus in the third wave.

“With an expected third wave of Covid-19, 420 tonnes of oxygen storage capacity is being prepared. We have also spoken to Indraprastha Gas Limited to produce 150 tonnes of oxygen,” CM Kejriwal said.

Kejriwal also announced that two genome sequencing labs will be set up in Delhi for detection of new variants, if there would be any.

“Two genome sequencing labs to be set up at LNJP hospital and ILBS Hospital respectively in Delhi so that we can also find out which strain is affecting Delhi, he said.
