Musicals Can Help Cope With Alzheimer’s Disease
Singing famous songs from musicals aloud can help reduce the impact of dementia among patients suffering from Alzheimer’s disease. A four-month long study, which was conducted at care homes in the US, found that patients who participated in group singing sessions coped better than patients who only resorted to listening to songs. In this case, the patients sung songs from popular musicals like The Sound of Music, Oklahoma, The Wizard of Oz and Pinocchio.
Jane Flinn, a neurologist from George Mason University in Virginia, recommend care homes to conduct group singing sessions as they not only entertained patients but also worked on the wiring of the mind. The results of the study were evaluated using a satisfaction-with-life questionnaire, after the test, that testified the claim.
