Elon Musk Slams Trump’s Tax and Spending Bill: ‘A Disgusting Abomination’ Adding $3.8 Trillion to Debt

Elon Musk has entered the political ring once again—this time going head-to-head with former ally President Donald Trump over a sweeping tax and spending bill that just passed the House of Representatives by a single vote. The legislation, officially titled the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, seeks to extend Trump’s 2017 tax cuts while combining them with new spending provisions. But according to the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office, the plan would add $3.8 trillion to the national debt, which already stands at $36.2 trillion.

In a fiery post on X (formerly Twitter), Elon Musk didn’t hold back: “This massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill is a disgusting abomination.” He accused lawmakers who supported the measure of knowingly worsening the nation’s already ballooning deficit. “Shame on those who voted for it: you know you did wrong.

While Republican leaders like House Speaker Mike Johnson and Senate Majority Leader John Thune dismissed Elon Musk’s comments, several hardline conservatives quickly aligned themselves with the billionaire entrepreneur. Rep. Warren Davidson dubbed Elon Musk’s critique “The Big Beautiful Tweet,” while Senator Mike Lee urged Republicans to use the bill as an opportunity to commit to deficit reduction.

Elon Musk’s criticism of the Trump Tax bill carries extra weight, given his former role as the head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) under Trump’s administration. Though his term as a special government employee officially ended last week, Elon Musk’s exit clearly hasn’t muted his voice.

In an earlier interview, Elon Musk said the One Big Beautiful Bill Act would “undermine everything DOGE worked for,” and on Tuesday, he went even further, warning that the One Big Beautiful Bill Act would “massively increase the already gigantic budget deficit to $2.5 trillion (!!)” and saddle Americans with “crushingly unsustainable debt.

Despite Elon Musk’s high-profile opposition, the White House shrugged off the backlash. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said, “The president already knows where Elon Musk stood on this bill. It doesn’t change his opinion. This is one big, beautiful bill, and he’s sticking to it.”

Donald Trump has not publicly clashed with Elon Musk over the remarks, but insiders suggest tension is brewing. The tech mogul has increasingly distanced himself from partisan loyalty, despite once being tapped by Trump as a budget hawk.

With the Trump Tax bill now heading to the Senate, where revisions are likely, the debate is far from over. What’s clear is that Musk’s vocal condemnation has rekindled fiscal hawkishness among Republican ranks and added a potent twist to the political battle over tax policy.

So basically, Elon Musk is finding the semblance and has called the One Big Beautiful Bill Act a disgusting abomination.
