Google launches food delivery app – Areo; doorstep services available
Google has introduced Areo, an app for food delivery and home services, which will operate in Bengaluru and Mumbai on Android mobile handsets.
“Areo lets users search for local restaurants and home services like electricians, plumbers, and painters, and schedule their deliveries or appointments through the app,” the company has mentioned on its Google Play store application.
The app also holds customer reviews of available food companies, eateries which will help customers take decisions as to where to eat, including the timeliness of services.
Users can pay by card, netbanking or avail the cash on delivery service through the app. Cab-hailing services Ola and Uber have also introduced their food delivery services in India in the past.
Ola Café, Uber Eats
Ola Café, the company’s food delivery business shut down last year, after poor business due to competition in the sector. Uber Eats, which is an on-demand food delivery app was introduced in India in the beginning of this year, after Uber witnessed huge success of its pilot in Los Angeles, California. What remains to be seen in if these new apps on the block with be able to make a cut in a market which is largely dominated by older food delivery apps like Zomato.
