‘Happy Gilmore 2’ Tees Off in 2025: Release Date, Cast, Cameos & Everything We Know
Nearly 30 years after the cult classic Happy Gilmore made golf hilarious and unforgettable, Adam Sandler is bringing back the iconic hockey-stick-wielding golfer for a long-awaited sequel. Happy Gilmore 2 is officially set to premiere on Netflix on July 25, 2025, and fans couldn’t be more excited.
Initially released in 1996, Happy Gilmore became a sports-comedy staple, launching Sandler into superstardom. Now, Happy Gilmore 2 is ready to continue the story with a mix of returning cast, celebrity cameos, and an homage to late actor Carl Weathers, who played the beloved Chubbs Peterson.
Original Stars Return, Including Shooter McGavin
The sequel wouldn’t be complete without Adam Sandler reprising his role as the unorthodox golfer Happy Gilmore. Also returning is Christopher McDonald as the villainous Shooter McGavin, reigniting one of the most legendary rivalries in sports movie history. Fans will also see Julie Bowen back as Virginia Venit, Gilmore’s love interest and PR guru, now more familiar to audiences from her award-winning role in Modern Family.
In a nostalgic twist, Ben Stiller will also make an appearance as Hal, the twisted nursing home orderly from the original film, adding even more fan service to the Netflix production.
A Tribute to Chubbs and Morris the Alligator
While Carl Weathers passed away in 2024 and will not appear, the sequel reportedly pays tribute to his character, Chubbs Peterson. The film also honors Morris, the real-life 640-pound alligator that “killed” Chubbs in the original. Morris died just weeks before the sequel’s announcement, capping off the emotional homage.
Celebrity Athlete Cameos Take Center Stage
What’s a Happy Gilmore sequel without a few golf legends? Happy Gilmore 2 delivers big with cameos from some of the biggest names in golf, including Jack Nicklaus, Rory McIlroy, Scottie Scheffler, Bryson DeChambeau, Brooks Koepka, Paige Spiranac, and many more.
The film also features celebrity appearances from beyond the sports world, including Bad Bunny, Eminem, Travis Kelce, Becky Lynch, Kid Cudi, and even wrestling star MJF.
