As many as twenty people died on Friday night at Delhi’s Jaipur Golden Hospital due to an acute shortage of medical oxygen. “We lost 20 patients, almost all of whom were in critical care unit and on a high flow of oxygen. Our liquid medical oxygen was over by about 10 pm and then we switched over to the oxygen cylinders,” said Dr Depp Baluja, medical director of the hospital. The hospital was scheduled to receive its quota of oxygen by 5 in the evening but it reached around midnight, the doctor said.
Even when the supplies reached, it only received only 40% of its allotted quota. At least 215 Covid patients admitted at the hospital are critical and in dire need of oxygen, he added. The hospital on Saturday morning also have oxygen for only 45 minutes and they sought for urgent government help.
The hospital has now approached Delhi High Court for help. Jaipur Golden is among several hospitals in Delhi that have been complaining about shortage of oxygen supply this week. Earlier Moolchand hospital, in a tweet, appealed for urgent help from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Lt Governor Anil Baijal. More than 130 Covid patients are on life support, it stressed.

Have over 135 COVID pts with many on life support #. @ArvindKejriwal @CMODelh i@LtGovDelhi @satinderjain26 @PMOIndia (sic),” read the tweet put out by Moolchand Healthcare this morning.
