Rumer Willis Sees Bruce Willis in Her Daughter as His Dementia Battle Changes Everything
Rumer Willis is finding an unexpected connection to her father, Bruce Willis, through her 3-year-old daughter Louetta even as the Hollywood star continues living with frontotemporal dementia.
The 38-year-old actress has opened up about the deeply personal impact of her father’s diagnosis, revealing that she sees Bruce’s playful personality, mischievous smirks and sense of imagination in her young daughter.
Speaking to InStyle about her partnership with health membership company Function, Rumer described parenthood as a source of perspective during one of the most difficult chapters her family has faced.
“I see so much of him in her,” Rumer said of Louetta.
For the actress, those similarities are not simply about appearance. They are reminders of the personality and spirit she has known in her father throughout her life.

Rumer Willis said she notices Bruce Willis’s influence in the little things Louetta does, including the expressions she makes.
“It’s the smirks she makes, I just see it,” she said.
Rumer also credited both Bruce and her mother, Demi Moore, with encouraging imagination and curiosity during her childhood.
Now, she is watching some of that same spirit emerge in the next generation.
The emotional significance is heightened by Bruce’s health battle. His family publicly announced his frontotemporal dementia diagnosis in 2023 after previously revealing that he had been diagnosed with aphasia.
For Rumer, the diagnosis has changed the way she thinks about family, health and the passage of time.
Bruce Willis’ “Different Chapter”
Rumer described her relationship with her father now as a completely different chapter.
“You have this person that you love, but it’s a different version of them,” she said.
Rather than trying to recreate the past, she said the family is focused on meeting Bruce where he is.
“It’s different but still beautiful,” Rumer explained.
In a separate interview with PEOPLE, she said that Bruce still smiles when he sees her and Louetta, describing the love and tenderness that remain within the family as a major source of gratitude.
That perspective has become increasingly important to Rumer Willis as she raises her own daughter.
Bruce’s Diagnosis Changed Rumer’s Approach to Health
The actress has also responded to her father’s illness by taking a much closer look at her own health.
Through her partnership with Function, Rumer underwent an APOE genetic test to assess a genetic factor associated with Alzheimer’s disease risk. She said the result came back “average.”
She acknowledged that getting genetic information can be frightening.
“It’s terrifying to get answers sometimes,” she previously told PEOPLE. But she argued that having information can help people make informed decisions about their health and discuss results with healthcare professionals.
Rumer has also learned that she has high cholesterol, something she said surprised her given her lifestyle.
Her message is increasingly focused on prevention and awareness—not waiting for a health crisis before paying attention.
“I Want to Be Around for Her”
There is a particularly powerful reason behind Rumer’s approach to health: Louetta.
The actress has said she wants to remain as healthy as possible for as long as possible so she can be there for her daughter.
That motivation has given the painful experience of watching her father’s illness another dimension.
Rumer is not simply thinking about what happened to Bruce. She is thinking about what she can learn from it and how that knowledge could influence the future she builds with her own child.
