Cole Hauser vs Taylor Sheridan Feud Explodes Again as ‘Yellowstone’ Stars Nearly Come to Blows

The long-rumored tension between Cole Hauser and Taylor Sheridan appears to be heating up again, with a new report claiming the Yellowstone & Dutton Ranch star and creator nearly came to blows for a second time.

Hauser, best known for playing fan-favorite cowboy Rip Wheeler, and Sheridan, the mastermind behind the Yellowstone universe, reportedly have a complicated relationship dating back to the early days of their working partnership.

According to the Daily Mail, people familiar with the situation describe the clash as a personality battle between two very different men. Neither Taylor Sheridan nor Cole Hauser has publicly confirmed the latest alleged confrontation, and representatives for both reportedly did not respond to requests for comment.

Cole Hauser and Taylor Sheridan Are Reportedly ‘Oil and Water’

One source described the relationship as a classic clash between California and Texas personalities.

Cole Hauser, 51, is portrayed as laid-back and easygoing, having grown up in Santa Barbara, California. The source, meanwhile,  described Taylor Sheridan as intensely direct, demanding, and deeply focused on his work.

“Cole has had beef with Taylor for a while,” the source claimed, according to the report.

The insider reportedly described Taylor Sheridan as someone who can come across as harsh because of his blunt communication style, while Hauser allegedly operates with a much more relaxed attitude.

The result, according to the source, is a relationship where the personalities simply do not naturally fit.

Their Feud Allegedly Goes Back Years

The reported tension isn’t entirely new.

Cole Hauser previously acknowledged that he and Taylor Sheridan had a physical confrontation early in their relationship. In a 2022 interview with Men’s Journal, Hauser said the two men got into a fight the second time they crossed paths, although he did not reveal what caused the incident.

The latest report claims the pair have now nearly clashed physically again, although it does not establish when or where the alleged confrontation happened.

That makes the reported dispute particularly explosive given their professional history and Cole Hauser’s importance to Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone universe.

Did Sheridan Resent Hauser’s Acting Career?

Another insider offered a much more provocative theory for the alleged tension.

The source speculated that Taylor Sheridan could be jealous of Cole Hauser’s success as an actor.

Sheridan originally pursued acting after arriving in Hollywood but ultimately became far more successful as a writer, director, and producer. His career eventually exploded with Yellowstone, 1883, 1923, Tulsa King and other projects.

Cole Hauser, meanwhile, built a lengthy acting career before landing the role of Rip Wheeler, one of the most recognizable characters in modern television westerns.

An insider reportedly argued that Hauser has a natural presence on camera, while Sheridan’s own difficult experience as an aspiring actor may have influenced his demanding approach toward performers.

That claim remains speculation, not an established fact.

Hauser’s Comments About ‘Dutton Ranch’ Set Raise Eyebrows

The feud speculation intensified after Cole Hauser discussed the challenges of working on the Yellowstone spinoff Dutton Ranch without Sheridan regularly present on set.

In a recent interview, Hauser described having to rely on the cast and crew around him and essentially focus on getting the job done despite changing circumstances.

He said the experience required the team to adapt quickly and work things out as they went.

Those comments reportedly irritated people close to Sheridan because they could be interpreted as exposing behind-the-scenes difficulties on the production.

Hauser, however, did not directly accuse Sheridan of misconduct or publicly declare a feud.

Hauser Reportedly Keeps Quiet Despite the Tension

Another source claimed Hauser is unlikely to openly challenge Sheridan because he remains grateful for the opportunity to play Rip Wheeler.

The actor has become synonymous with the character, whose popularity helped make him one of the most recognizable faces in the Yellowstone franchise.

According to the source, Cole Hauser generally backs down quickly during disagreements and understands Taylor Sheridan’s enormous influence over the franchise.

That reportedly creates an unusual dynamic: two men who may clash personally while remaining professionally tied to one of television’s biggest modern western franchises.

The Coffee Brand Legal Battle Added More Fuel

Their relationship also became complicated outside television.

In 2023, Sheridan’s Bosque Ranch became involved in a legal dispute with Cole Hauser’s Free Rein Coffee over allegations involving similarities between branding and logos.

The lawsuit was dismissed in early 2024, and neither man publicly turned the dispute into a prolonged personal war.

But with the latest allegations of another near-altercation and renewed scrutiny of Hauser’s comments about Dutton Ranch, the Sheridan-Hauser relationship is once again attracting attention.

For now, the biggest question is whether the reported tension remains a private personality clash—or becomes a serious problem for Rip Wheeler’s future and the wider Yellowstone franchise.
