Prateek Kuhad to perform at Big Gig Exclusive, soundplunge_test catches up with him for more dope on his performance at this Himalayan music festival.

Singer-songwriter from Delhi, Prateek Kuhad has come a long way from the dim pubs of New York where he was one of the performers for the “200 gigs alone in Manhattan.” Ever since he came into the scene, Prateek has got noticed for his velvet smooth voice, which in a sea of singer-songwriters holds its own.

Prateek fits into the image of a shy singer-songwriter perfectly, his breezy pop-folk numbers settling comfortably in your indie playlist, yet standing out at the same time, like glittering dust in sunshine. Perhaps his hauntingly soothing voice is to credit for that, perhaps it is the masterful music arrangement that makes complex guitar lines fit in seamlessly within the minimalist overtones. Without getting too technical, suffice it to say Prateek’s voice will seem comfortingly familiar whether you’re a fan of Western Country folk, Hindustani music or acoustic pop. Prateek writes his lyrics in Hindi, even though he has an eponymous EP comprised of English tunes. Prateek decided to shift to India and play, and performed solo for a while before forming The Prateek Kuhad Collective.

The Prateek Kuhad Collective is relatively early on the scene, a trio which comprised of Sahil Warsi on double bass and Vir Singh Brar on percussion when it was formed. The Collective has been around for almost two years now, after debuting in Delhi in 2012.

For Big Gig Exclusive Prateek will play with Nikhil Vasudevan, who is also part of the Delhi-based band Moonshine, known for their jazz-funk intonations. Prateek said about their upcoming performance at Big Gig Exclusive, “Nikhil and I have performed together before, at gigs in Delhi and then in Kolkata as well. What we want for Big Gig is for the sound to be as big and full as possible. I will be on my guitar and Nikhil will be on all kinds of percussion. We’ll be playing some new songs that are going to be released as a (yet unnamed) album later this year.”
