The New Orleans rap icon is reuniting with Drake and Nicki Minaj, officially giving Young Money fans the collaboration they’ve been craving for years.

According to Sports Illustrated, the album features a staggering mix of talent that spans genres, eras, and continents. In short: this isn’t just an album—it’s an event.

Lil Wayne has been teasing Tha Carter VI for months, and on Thursday morning, he dropped a nostalgic teaser trailer featuring album artwork from every Carter project to date. The commercial plays snippets from some of Lil Wayne’s most legendary tracks—like “A Milli” and “Lollipop”—before previewing fresh material from the upcoming record. The clip highlights how far Wayne has come since Tha Carter debuted in 2004 and suggests that this latest installment could be his most ambitious yet.

While the official tracklist is still under wraps, Lil Wayne hinted in an interview with Rolling Stone that he approached the project with a fresh perspective. “If there’s one thing about this album that’s different,” he said, “it’s me approaching it like, ‘Man, what would I sound like on something with such and such?’” That creative mindset is likely what drew in genre-bending artists like Andrea Bocelli and Bono, suggesting that Tha Carter VI may break new ground in both sound and style.

Adding to the hype, Lil Wayne will mark the album’s release with a historic headlining show at Madison Square Garden—his first ever at the legendary New York City venue. The concert will serve as the kickoff for a nationwide tour celebrating the Carter series, which begins on July 30 in Bristow, VA, and wraps up on October 2 in West Palm Beach, FL. Openers for the tour include Tyga, Belly Gang Kushington, NoCap, and a reunion of Hot Boys.

This marks Lil Wayne’s first solo album since 2020’s Funeral and his first Carter release since Tha Carter V in 2018. Fans are eager to see whether Tha Carter VI can live up to the series’ legacy, which includes some of the most iconic tracks in hip-hop history.

Whether you’re in it for the music, the nostalgia, or the once-in-a-lifetime features, Tha Carter VI is shaping up to be one of the most significant cultural moments of the year, and it brings the Young Money days with Lil Wayne, Drake and Nicki Minaj coming together.
