British entrepreneur claims to invent safest bike ever

Cycling is one of the healthiest ways to keep your body in a well-maintained active state but there are many who shy away from using it due to safety concerns. Now, a British entrepreneur has decided to change that mindset by inventing what he calls ‘the safest bike in history’.

Named the Babel Bike, the contraption is the brainchild of Crispin Sinclair and his team who are now looking for funds via the crowd-sourcing website, Indiegogo. Sinclair claims that the Babel’s protective cage, double seat belts and other safety features make the vehicle very safe to use.

Sinclair said “The main feature is the safety cage with the seatbelt, and the idea is that it’s wide enough that it won’t go under the side of a lorry, of a modern bus or lorry, so it gets pushed away instead, and also if you’re hit by a car it’s effectively the same as a car roll cage. It’s also got on the final version wing mirrors, indicators, hazard flashers, and a loud horn.”

Cyclists living in London are often threatened by being struck or mowed down by a lorry. Many past accidents have taken place where the lorry driver was not even aware of the accident due its occurrence at the driver’s ‘blind-spot’. The Babel’s roll-cage body and loud automatic horn aims to put a stop to such mishaps.

Crispin is not the only one in his family who has an incline towards innovation and entrepreneurship. His father, Sir Clive Sinclair was famous for being the man behind the Sinclair ZX range of home computers that were launched in the 1980s. He also launched the Sinclair C5, an electric vehicle and Zike, a lightweight electric bicycle. However, both failed to garner any interest among customers.
