JSW Motors to Launch Jetour T2 Plug-In Hybrid SUV in India
JSW Motors Limited is gearing up to make its long-awaited entry into India’s passenger vehicle market, and its first offering is set to be the Jetour T2 plug-in hybrid SUV. According to media reports, the model will be assembled locally at JSW’s upcoming greenfield manufacturing facility in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar, Maharashtra, and is expected to arrive in showrooms by the third quarter of 2026.
The Chery Jetour T2 will be introduced under the JSW badge, following a strategic tie-up with Chinese automaker Chery, marking a key step in JSW Group’s ambition to establish itself as an independent carmaker in India.
A Boxy SUV With Global Design Appeal
The Chery Jetour T2 is a large, 5-seat SUV built on a monocoque chassis and measures 4.7 metres in length with a 2.8-metre wheelbase, making it larger than the Tata Safari. Its styling features a rugged, boxy silhouette reminiscent of premium off-roaders such as the Land Rover Defender and Toyota Land Cruiser Prado.
Design highlights include an upright front fascia, square LED headlamps, chunky bumpers, pronounced wheel arches, and a wide stance that lends the SUV a strong road presence. Despite its rugged looks, the T2 prioritises on-road comfort with its monocoque construction rather than a ladder-frame setup.
Plug-In Hybrid Powertrain for India
In line with JSW Motors’ focus on sustainable mobility, the India-bound Jetour T2 will be offered exclusively with a plug-in hybrid powertrain. Internationally, the SUV is also available with pure internal combustion engines, but these are unlikely to be introduced in India at launch.
The Jetour T2 i-DM uses a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine producing 154 BHP and 220 Nm of torque, paired with two front-mounted electric motors. Together, the hybrid system delivers a combined output of 221 BHP and 390 Nm, offering strong performance alongside improved efficiency.
Power is supplied by a 26.7 kWh battery pack, enabling a claimed pure electric driving range of up to 139 km (NEDC cycle)—a standout figure in the plug-in hybrid SUV segment. While the T2 i-DM is offered globally in both front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive configurations, JSW has yet to confirm which version will be sold in India.
Expected Pricing and Market Positioning
Official pricing for the Indian market has not been announced. However, for reference, the front-wheel-drive Chery Jetour T2 i-DM retails at approximately Rs 35 lakh in the UAE, suggesting a premium positioning when it arrives in India. Local assembly could help JSW price the SUV competitively against rivals in the midsize and large SUV segments.
With its rugged styling, long electric-only range, and local assembly, the Jetour T2 plug-in hybrid could play a pivotal role in shaping JSW Motors’ future in India’s evolving SUV and electrified mobility landscape.
