Income Tax Return: From Mobile app to quick refund processing, check key features of new e-filing portal
The Income Tax (I-T) department will unveil a new ITR e-filing portal www.incometax.gov.in, on June 7, 2021. The new portal, designed to be more user friendly, will have several new features and enhancements, the IT deptt said. The existing portal will remain non-operational till 6 June to prepare for the launch and migration of data to the new income tax e-filing portal.
“We are moving to an all-new e-Filing portal with exciting features, from 7th June, 2021. We thank you for your patience and appreciate the trust you have placed in us. You come first, always. Stay Tuned!” the department said.

Earlier, The Central Board of Direct Taxes had urged taxpayers to complete all their urgent tasks involving any submission, upload or downloads before June 1, in order to avoid any difficulty during the blackout period – June 1-June 6, 2021.
Here are 7 taxpayer-friendly features offered by the new income tax e-filing portal are as follows:
Mobile Application
All the important functions of this portal on the desktop will be available on a mobile app which will be enabled subsequently for access on a mobile network.
New Dashboard
The new e-filing portal will provide a new single dashboard. The dashboard will display all interactions and uploads or pending actions for follow-up by the taxpayer.
Quick Refund
The new e-filing portal integrated with immediate processing of Income Tax Returns (ITRs) will help issue quick refunds to taxpayers.
Free of Cost ITR prep software
A free-of-cost ITR preparation software will be available online as well as offline with interactive questions to assist taxpayers to file their returns on income
Call Centre
A new call center for taxpayer assistance will be available for immediate answers to taxpayer queries with videos, tutorials, frequently asked questions (FAQs), and chatbot/live agent
Swift payment process
To ensure easy payments, the new ITR website will also have a new online payment system with multiple payment options like net banking, UPI, credit card and RTGS or NEFT from any account of the taxpayer in any bank
Grievance Redressal mechanism
Taxpayers can not only file ITRs under individual and many other categories but also raise complaints seeking refunds and other works with the tax department
