Covid-19: Maharashtra to vaccinate all its citizens for free

Amid the worsening coronavirus crisis in the country, the Maharashtra government on Sunday announced that the state will vaccinate all its citizens for free. Speaking with news agency ANI, State Minister Nawab Malik said that the move was discussed in the state cabinet and global tenders will soon be floated for the vaccinations. Maharashtra, the worst-hit state in the country by Covid, has been clocking over 60,000 daily coronavirus cases for the last few days. On Saturday, the state’s fatalities fell to its second highest peak of 676, taking its overall toll to 63,928, the worst in the country. The caseload rose to 42,28,836 while the death toll reached 63,928. The case-fatality ratio in the state is at 1.51%.



Till April 19, Maharashtra had inoculated 1,22,83,050 people. 14,09,16,417 vaccine doses have been administered through 20,19,263 sessions, the Centre’s provisional report till 7 am today showed. The caseload rose to 42,28,836 while the death toll reached 63,928. The case-fatality ratio in the state is at 1.51%

Serum Institute of India (SII) has assured Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray of ‘maximum support’ in vaccinating the people in the state at the earliest, chief minister’s office (CMO) said on Saturday. “CM Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray has been assured of maximum support by Mr Adar Poonawalla and the Serum Institute of India to ensure maximum vaccination at the earliest in the State of Maharashtra,” the CMO tweeted.

Chief Minister also expressed his gratitude towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi after the Centre gave its nod to the supply of 4,35,000 vials of Remdesivir to the state. “The Central government today has approved the supply of 4,35,000 vials of Remdesivir to Maharashtra till April 30th. CM Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray has thanked the Hon’ble PM Narendra Modi for accepting his request,” the chief minister’s office (CMO) said in a tweet. Earlier 2,69,000 vials were being sent to the state, a statement by the CMO said.
