Over 200 residents of a Noida Society Fall Sick after Consuming Contaminated Water
Over 200 Supertech Eco Village 2 residents in Greater Noida West fell ill on Monday after consuming contaminated water, leading to a health crisis in the society. The majority of those affected were children who exhibited symptoms like vomiting, diarrhoea, and fever. Residents have blamed the outbreak on poor maintenance of the society’s water tanks, which they believe caused the contamination.
The situation escalated quickly, with numerous families rushing their children to local hospitals for treatment. One resident recounted how their child fell ill after returning from a coaching class, showing signs of nausea and vomiting. Soon after, another child in the family, aged eight, also began displaying similar symptoms. The parent later experienced nausea, which they attributed to the tainted water.
Abhishek Singh, another resident, shared a harrowing experience as his son’s condition worsened, resulting in seizures. His son was admitted to the ICU at a local hospital, where he is still receiving treatment. Abhishek Singh, along with other residents, suspects that the water cleaning process conducted last week may not have been thorough, leading to the crisis.
Initial suspicions were directed towards food poisoning from outside sources. However, as more people fell ill, it became clear that the common link was the society’s water supply. The issue primarily affected four towers—C-4, C-5, C-6, and C-7—comprising over 160 flats. Residents pointed out that the society’s water tanks had been cleaned over three days last week, but the quality of the cleaning was inadequate.
In response to the growing outcry, the society’s maintenance team inspected the water tanks and collected samples for testing. They assured residents that they would address the problem and take action against those responsible for the negligence.
A senior official from the Bisrakh police station later confirmed that cleaning materials used during the tank maintenance had inadvertently contaminated the water, leading to the widespread illness. The Greater Noida authority has since become involved in the situation, ensuring the water supply is safe and preventing further harm to the residents.
The incident has raised concerns over water safety in residential complexes, underscoring the need for stricter oversight in maintenance practices.
