Enterprise blockchain solutions provider Ripple and its executives have, reportedly, donated $29 million to fund every classroom project request on DonorsChoose.org – a non-profit website.
Ripple and its executives made the donation on XRP, which was then converted to US dollars and was further used to make purchases as per classroom requirements. Ripple enables a frictionless experience at sending money globally using blockchain technology. With offices in San Francisco, New York, London, Luxembourg, Singapore, Sydney and Mumbai, they have more than 100 customers around the world.
The donation stands to fulfill 35,647 requests from 28,210 public school teachers across every state in the US. Teachers at 16,561 public schools — or 1in 6 of all the public schools in America will now receive books and other school supplies along with technology, field trips and other vital resources for learning.
Monica Long, SVP of Marketing at Ripple said, “At Ripple, we care about giving back to our community and we collectively value the importance of quality education in developing the next generation of leaders.” She further added, “DonorsChoose.org’s track record speaks for itself — they are highly effective at improving the quality of education and the experience of teachers and students across America. We’re proud to work with them to support classroom needs across the country.”
In all likeliness, the gesture marks the largest donation ever of a digital asset to a single charity and is also DonorsChoose.org’s largest received donation in its 18-year history. “I doubt that there has ever been a day when more classroom dreams came true,” said Charles Best, founder of DonorsChoose.org.
DonorsChoose.org is a platform that teachers across America use to create projects, searching for resources their students may require and donors give as per their own choice. Founded by a teacher in the Bronx in 2000, it has received from 3 million people and partners have given over $650 million to projects reaching 27 million students.
