Employment Ready Professionals: Over 5.8 Lak Students coming out of 21,500 colleges
Career-tech platform Internshala has released a new report highlighting the impact of colleges’ training and placement cells in transforming students into employable professionals. The report underscores that over 21,500 higher education institutions (HEIs) are working with Internshala to offer over 5.8 lakh students opportunities that bridge the gap between academic learning and industry requirements.
The Internshala report emphasises how colleges in India are pivotal in preparing students for their professional journeys. In today’s highly competitive job market, students are focusing on excelling academically, gaining industry-relevant skills, and pursuing internships. The active participation of colleges through their training and placement cells has been crucial in guiding students to gain practical experience and apply their academic knowledge to real-world problems.
In the past year alone, students from these colleges have submitted more than 5.87 lakh internship and job applications, highlighting their growing awareness of the importance of internships. These internships offer students the opportunity to develop essential skills such as communication, teamwork, and problem-solving, which employers highly value. Colleges have been crucial in spreading awareness about internships and skill development, with consistent support from government bodies like UGC and AICTE.
Over the years, colleges have recognized that providing students with these opportunities improves their employability and enhances their institutions’ reputation. Training and placement officers (TPOs), deans, and professors have been instrumental in guiding students towards internships and career-enhancing experiences.
Sarvesh Agrawal, the founder and CEO of Internshala, said, “Internshala would not have been born if it was not for that one email from my alma-mater IIT Madras to its alumni in 2011 that flooded my inbox with request from alum startups who wanted to hire interns through my Internshala blog – this gave me the conviction to take the plunge and pursue Internshala full time. Evident from this instance, it is undeniable that colleges play a fundamental role in laying the foundation of a student’s career journey. It has been inspiring to see 21500+ colleges across India paving the path to improved employability for their 5.8 lac+ students. The day is not far when we’ll see all the HEIs across India following these footsteps and make the 40m+ Indian students career-ready.“
In 2023, over 33,800 students secured internships and jobs through their colleges, with an average stipend of ₹4,200 per month and a maximum stipend of ₹60,000. This support from colleges is helping students secure better job opportunities, and the number is expected to rise significantly by the end of 2024. The Internshala report showcases colleges’ growing role in shaping India’s future workforce.
