Kimi Raikkonen’s Son Robin Joins Red Bull: 11-Year-Old Enters F1 Giant’s Junior Programme
Red Bull has built one of the most successful junior programs in modern motorsport. Its alumni include Max Verstappen, Sebastian Vettel and Carlos Sainz, while current young talent Arvid Lindblad has also emerged through the system.
Red Bull Racing has signed Robin Raikkonen, the 11-year-old son of 2007 Formula 1 world champion Kimi Raikkonen, to its driver development program. Nicknamed “Ace,” the young Finn will officially begin his association with Red Bull in 2027, marking a major step in his early racing career.
Robin has already attracted attention through his karting performances, and Red Bull believes he has the speed and racecraft to develop into a serious young prospect.
From the Iceman to the Red Bull Junior Team
Kimi Raikkonen remains one of Formula 1’s most recognizable champions.
The Finn won the 2007 world championship with Ferrari and finished his F1 career with 21 victories and 103 podiums from 349 starts. He retired from Formula 1 at the end of 2021 after an unusually long career that also included spells in the World Rally Championship and NASCAR.
Now, his son is beginning a completely different chapter.
Kimi Raikkonen said the family was “thrilled and excited” that Robin Raikkonen had been selected for Red Bull’s junior program. He also praised the organization for offering a structured environment designed to develop his son’s abilities over the coming years.
The former Ferrari star stressed that Robin would need to earn the opportunity through continued development.
Red Bull Sees Something Special in Robin

Red Bull team principal Laurent Mekies said Robin Raikkonen had already shown “exceptional ability” in karting.
According to Laurent Mekies, the youngster’s speed, racecraft and natural talent have placed him among the promising drivers in his age group. But Red Bull also highlighted qualities away from outright pace, including Robin’s maturity, composure and focus.
That could prove just as important as raw speed.
Red Bull Wants No Pressure on Raikkonen
Despite the enormous motorsport surname attached to Robin, Red Bull says it does not want to rush his development.
Mekies said the organization’s goal is to develop Robin Raikkonen step by step without placing unnecessary pressure on him.
That approach is particularly significant because Robin is only 11. The journey from karting to Formula 1 typically involves several categories of single-seater racing, with drivers facing increasingly competitive machinery and intense physical and mental demands along the way.
Red Bull says it will provide the support and resources necessary to help him maximize his potential.
For now, there is no guarantee that Robin will reach Formula 1.
But being selected by Red Bull puts one of motorsport’s most famous young surnames inside one of the sport’s most powerful talent pipelines.

Another Finnish Racing Legacy Begins
Robin’s arrival also adds another chapter to Finland’s remarkable motorsport tradition.
His father became world champion with Ferrari in 2007, while Mika Hakkinen won two F1 titles for McLaren in 1998 and 1999.
Robin follows another famous Finnish motorsport family into junior development. Ella Hakkinen, Mika Hakkinen’s daughter, joined McLaren’s driver development program in 2025.
Robin still has a long way to go.
But with the Red Bull Junior Team now behind him, the son of the “Iceman” has taken his first major step toward discovering just how far his own racing talent can go.
